Sometimes, after big Windows updates it can rewrite your grub by second windows bootloader, even if you have linux and windows on separated hard disks. To prevent such behavioar, enough just set some password on your bios/uefi and this will protect your bootloaders.

Just wondering, why did you create the partitions in windows? The installer allows you to do that automatically. Also I think it would be easier to just go into the boot menu and choose the usb disk rather than going into bios to change the boot order. Just pointing this out to help simplify it for others.

What i dont get: since years there is a perfect graphical efi boot manager called rEFInd. Finds the installed OSes automatically. Boots linux, win, macos, bsd. Boots linux directly from root fs (ext4, btrfs) when kernel supports the efi stub mechanism. Offers usb boot and firmware entry. Awesome graphical interface, adjustable, customizable. Why is this not built in into any mainboard firmware? It never failed me, warmly recommended.

Hi there. I have a problem not being able to boot from the pendrive. The text that appears on my laptop screen when I try to dual boot from windows 10 trying to install Ubuntu 24.04 from a bootable pendrive with windows 10 says: could not create MokListRT: Volume full. Same thing for a line named: MokListXRT. And another: SbatLevelRT. One more: MokListTrustedRT. and the last line says: Something has gone seriously wrong: import_mok_state( ) failed: Volume full. I can't find any solution to this problem on the internet, in forums, on youtube, etc. I have done everything that is out there with people guiding me and asking me to do this and that and nothing works. Some people from Ubuntu´s forum say it is related to the secure boot KEY´S list within bios boot setup. I also have the secure boot section disabled. Some people suggest that I delete those keys or reset them to system default but IS IT SAFE to do that? I need help from you guys. Can you show me what to do? Thanks. Much appreciated with any information you can provide me. Best regards, Alex. Congrats on your channel.

It's nice to see using VirtualBox to showcase how to install dual-boot Ubuntu alongside existing Windows 10/11.👍 While this solution works, I want to install Ubuntu dual boot w/o booting into the Windows desktop to shrink the C: drive. Can live boot Ubuntu and the GParted partition manager shrink the Windows C: drive? That way, the installation can be completed in one go, i.e., booting from the Ubuntu USB drive without messing around with Windows.

@SavvyNik, can you make a more advanced video about installing various distros without disabling secure boot? For Ubuntu and openSuse for example this is easy but other distros require extra steps if one does not want to disable secure boot. Also to my understanding, kernel modules (for example for ZFS) also require manual signing when using secure boot. I found it hard to even find an up to date list of the status of secure boot support of distros. I also find shim and MOKs somewhat confusing, therefore I am currently using openSuse Tumbleweed on my secure boot enabled machines (and Arch/Garuda Lite on older machines without secure boot).

@sheldonkupa91209 ай бұрын
Boot loader and boot manager are not the same, but some can be both, you still need a bootloader like grub or win mgr or systemd boot for the OS. Thats what the bootmanagers handle. If the kernel supports it, it is directly bootable, but built in uefi bootmanagers dont support efi stub, as far as i know. Also here you need a separate bootloader which is accordingly offered by any distribution. rEFInd is a good solution for all situations imho.
