How to... DUCK - Part 3

Mongo Wifey want DUCKIES and Mongo want eggs soo... we get DUCKIES.
This series all about ducks and HOW TO DUCK!

DUCK NEEDS:
Adult ducks need 3-4 square feet of space per duck.
They DO NOT need nesting boxes.
They need to be able to submerge their entire head under water. Get a drinker that allows that.
Give them duck and goose feed, not chicken feed.
Best to have a heat lamp for them until they get ALL their feathers.
Wait till they are fully feathered before you put them outside.
Ducks love the water and are often wet, the coop needs good ventilation to not trap moisture.
Ducks are very clumsy, make sure they have ramps and they are not too steep of an angle.
When they are little guys best to put them inside a large container (like a tote or big metal trough).
Best to have a white heat lights during the day and a red heat light at night.
If you buy ducklings from a store DO NOT buy chicken drinkers or feeders. Ducks are not CHICKENS. "Different is Different" -Joey. Make sure to get drinkers and feeders for DUCKS.
Can use pine shaving bedding and/or wood pellet bedding.
NO CEDER wood - can kill ducks!
The COOP:
Mongo lives in the North. Some ducks are sensitive to cold weather. The ones Mongo got can live in the snow. Mongo insulate coop cause got the material and want them to be nice and cozy in the snow, but they don't need it.
Make sure the door is big enough for multiple ducks to enter/exit at the same time (again not chickens).
Keep in mind the coop bedding needs to be cleaned regularly, make it easy to clean out. (again ducks love water and are wet, they will get the bedding wet.)
Best to use straw for adult ducks.
Any wood that touches the ground should be treated lumber if you want it to last long time.
Mongo put metal siding on the outside to keep the wood lasting a long time.
The RUN:
Mongo just used basic metal fence posts and 2x4' meshed metal fence 60" tall and 100ft roll. The more ducks you have the larger run you will need. Mongo used just about the entire 100ft roll for 5 ducks. The idea of the run is just for when Mongo and wifey gone for long periods of time. Otherwise they are free roam around the yard. Ducks needs water, pools or ponds are perfect. They are also very dirty and will turn a clean pool into filth very quickly.
