It is still like this today. Research "Cracker Culture" to see how the history of dueling and "ruff and tumble" fighting was the precursor of today murders over being "dissed". This video is romanticizing uncivil rule by force and not by morals or laws. This cracker culture is also the source of lynching or mob murder without trial. A righteous man is more likely to overlook an insult. This is directly taught by God. Dueling among wrathful and wicked families have always, and all over the globe, lead to long family or clan feuds. Some clans in Papua New Guinea halfheartedly cast spears at each other because they are under this same cultural pressure, but they also seek the help of Australia's government to constrain them. The cause of the feud was long forgotten and they long for the real answer: rule by law.

Honor was paramount in the South when I was growing up, and I carry the idea with me today. I knew a teenager who disowned his whole family due to an unjustified attack on his reputation.

Well, now I learned two things: 1. Being a duelist was for some males the medieval equivalent of hitting the gym when you have to handle some anger issues or violence tendency. 2. Mike Tyson was right on how disrespect used to be fought indirectly by the chance of being punched in the face.
@candide10654 ай бұрын
Duels were not about anger issues, you missed the point by a mile.
@ERAA-on-YT4 ай бұрын
@@candide1065 Bro the video literally said that dueling was in the case of the troublesome, violent males a way to relief such impulses in a socially acceptable way. You totally missed my analogy by thinking I was generalizing, even if I specified "for some".
@candide10654 ай бұрын
@@ERAA-on-YT And because the video said so, it must be true, which is why you have really good sources about that topic, I suppose? Even your weird comparison with "hitting the gym" makes no sense since most people who "hot the gym" would probably deny that they have anger issues or violent tendencies. You sound extremely biased towards people who do sports and have a healthy life style.
@ERAA-on-YT4 ай бұрын
@@candide1065 Damn, you really are very determined into put things like I'm spreading misinformation but also twisting my words to make it like I was attacking a certain group. First: Sorry bud but I just made my interpretation on what was provided by the video, and corroborating the veracity of the statements further is on me. It isn't like I would spread the info outside this comment section and if I do without proper research then it would be between the lines "I think" instead of "I know". And if you have a problem with what I pointed or want the source then just go contact the guy behind this channel; and if you have conclusive evidence proving that particular part of the video is wrong, well, I will read you. Second: Seriously, I wrote "some" for a reason. I'm not against people who regularly go to the gym; let alone masculinity or any healthy lifestyle. But you can't deny that from the various reasons someone starts gym routines there is fighting inner demons and release some bad emotions/stress; like, bro, there are hundreds of videos about "hitting the gym" to recover from rupture, frustration, depression and things like that. And I repeat: I'm not saying going to the gym is a reflection of some toxic behavior. Today is legday btw.
@candide10654 ай бұрын
@@ERAA-on-YT I didn't twist your words, you're just really terrible at wording and/or you don't seem to think much before and while writing stuff which you basically admit in your "first" section. If anybody here is determined, it's you who writes half an essay instead of just admitting that you worded something really bad or that you have a bad point. The "some" in your original post doesn't change your general point of being physically active and doing something for your health = (potentially) toxic, that you repeated once more. The comparison between duels and "hitting the gym" is still terribly bad and stupid. None of those activities were/are about anger issues. Duels were about honor/pride and going to the gym is literally about health and improving yourself. Don't know what kind of weird people you know and what kind of videos you watch but I haven't ever seen anyone who goes to the gym because they are toxic or have anger issues and want to "fight demons". That's really just your resentment against healthy people. I also really don't like how easily people just throw around buzzwords like toxic. Literally anything someone doesn't like is toxic to them. Again, as some kind of actually objective advice: Please mind your wording and refrain from using empty buzzwords that only reflect your feelings instead of facts.

Imagine, you are coming home form a long travel to see your wife and young children. You need to work diligently to plant your crops so your family will not starve, but there are "honorable gentlemen with dignity and respect" challenging you to a duel at a bridge. You have a duty to your family to provide for them and work your land, and you are not skilled at jousting, but in order to appease the sick and twisted social pressures of "honor", you must enter a fight that will kill you and leave your children fatherless and your bride a widow. This video is a farce and is promoting evil and destructive behavior. A society must establish laws based on morals, and as a group, you can put down the evil within your group. The law "An eye for an eye" is a limiting law because by nature of brutes, they would murder for an insult and murder a family for the loss of an eye.
@candide10654 ай бұрын
@Sylentmana Many good and reasonable things were and are outlawed and people were and are making bad new laws, that's a terrible point, Karen. Young men were throwing their lives away in war, not in duels which were pretty rare and didn't always end up deadly. Today, people still are still dueling but "legally" in sports like boxing or MMA which are much more dangerous and brutal than duels back then and they still do it over pride/honor. So your terrible argument of "everything earlier = bad, everything now = good" is not only missing the point but devaluating it.
@tulkipper35554 ай бұрын
And brutes also get killed by a much more skilled foe. They live by violence, they die by violence. Brutes are statistically not the norm in a population.
