Look up en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/33_Thomas_Street and tell me that doesn't look like something H.R. Giger would have designed. Then, note the purpose the building now serves. Maybe there is a connection between morality and architecture.

It's understandable how the post-Norman kings of England would feverntly follow anglo-Saxon saint cults. Even Richard II had the St Edward cross on his arms. Henry VI of England, once crowed king of France in the Notre-Dame had posters put on the wall of the church showing his bloodline from St Edmund and St Louis. Henry III named his son after Saint Edward the confessor. King John followed the saint cult of Saint Wulfstan. The rebel barons during the first barons war, used the Jewelled shrine of St Edmund at bury st edmunds at a base for their campaign.

King Alfred is my most favourite of all the English monarchs. If I was asked to pick one I'd want to meet, it would be him. (of course, if the legends were true, I MIGHT go with King Arthur). Most of the others seem to be people I'd rather stay well clear of.

David Dawson's portrayal of Alfred in "The Last Kingdom" was my favorite part of the series, and he does an excellent job of showing just how pious and influential the real historical figure of Alfred was. His performance and the series overall are vastly under-appreciated.

Not to mention that King St. Alfred personally translated four works from Latin into Old English in love for the mind and soul of his people, essentially forming the first English literary canon, which yet today should be utilized in the education and formation of old and young alike. These works are the first third of the Psalter, St. Augustine's Soliloquies, St. Boethius' Consolation of Philosophy, and the Pastoral Rule of St. Gregory the Great which is mentioned in this video. St. Alfred commissioned many other translations, including St. Gregory's Dialogues, and would have been behind many more had he not reposed in the Lord so early in his life. May he ever intercede for cultural restoration in the English-speaking world and abroad, and may we be worthy of his prayers to Jesus Christ, our King and our God.

yea but the irony is, had he translated the BIBLE into English, he would have been proclaimed a heretic by the pope and excommunicated’. He would be considered an antichrist instead of a saint for translating the Bible into English. The hypocrisy of Catholicism…

you can’t have a magnificent king anymore because your monarchy has been driven down into uselessness and your parliament has been corrupted by a bunch of globalists whose actions are reminiscent of a certain german dictatorship. If this were the Age of Enlightenment, by now that government would be replaced.

it is very symbolic that this decorator Pugin (and he was a decorator, not an architect. - he had no architectural education) had the last name Pugin - have pigeons ever been famous for their intelligence?)) by the way, the architecture of Gothic is borrowed from the East. even the crucifer at the top is a clove spice in precise construction, and the gargoyles are nothing other than Chinese dragons.. glory to Xi!

Also, it is very easy to trick and manipulate people through democracy, without even catering to their emotions! The basic premise of bringing up a problem from 'experts' or people in charge to the ruling class and slant what is being said about the issue is probably one of the biggest flaws of it.

While I'm sure there is truth to the idea that there is a general pattern that civilization's follow as they rise and fall, I'm less worried about being subject to that pattern and more worried about its use as a political club by certain groups to bludgeon others they deem as "decadent." Even setting aside any implications for the present, I question the use of value-laden concepts that attempt to understand broad, sweeping historical processes in moral terms. A term like "decadence" is an example of how this particular schema is imposed "from above," so to speak, potentially bending the data of history to fit theory, as opposed to the other way around, and judging the society in terms that might've been entirely alien to them. One person's decadence is another's freedom, or even a third person's religious imperative. Whose metric should we rely on? Should we judge the terminal phase of the Mayan civilization based on what they-themselves would find decadent, what we find decadent in their behaviour as modern observers, or is there some absolute frame of reference we can use that is entirely free of cultural bias? Somethings are objectively harmful, such as prioritizing short-term gains at the expense of long-term stability, but others are only proposed as harmful based on cultural, religious, or political considerations. It's not that I don't see value in comparing and contrasting the historical arc of different civilizations, I just question why they never seem to rest at their descriptive use, but always seem to contain an implicit _prescriptive_ element. Our own civilization always seems to be at the last stage of the proposed cycle according to some laundry list of political gripes the creator or proponent of the model holds us as proof of our society's moral bankruptcy.

This architect is truly based and blessed. I want to see a whole city built in such an architecture style, such as Gothic, Traditional Christian, Tartarian, Victorian, or Warhammer 40k type of architecture. It's like architecture commonly depicted in isekai/magical kingdom animes. I really hate brutalist and Bahaus architecture, it looks like from a dystopian science fiction, so depressing. Almost as if there's a conspiracy to suppress the human spirit and cultural heritage through ugly architecture.

An interesting and intelligible summary. You mention stone being hauled in by oxen. In the case of Christchurch (Dorset, UK) Priory, which is cathedral size, the stone came mainly from Purbeck (along the coast) and Caen (France.) It was mainly transported by boat as was much of the material for Old Westminster Abbey, Rouen Cathedral, Norte Dame and others with convenient, navigable rivers. Cheaper, quicker and allowing larger loads and individual blocks.

faith has NOTHING to do with architecture. it is the love and belief in men's hearts, and thinking that buildings can contribute to this is pure idolatry because at its very best it is carnal, being will of the flesh, emotion evoked by men and worth nothing
@ΑντώνιοςΤρισμέγιστος22 сағат бұрын
Faith got EVERYTHING to do with architecture. All this “faith is just something in the heart💖” bs is just one step away from the death of tradition and community. True faith is something expressed, revealed, shared, inspired and inspiring, not a private narcissist good feeling. Sometimes you just look at the street and see that “yep, there is no soul here.” “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there...”

Totally agree,a nation that subscribes to sodomy and adultery before you can hold a job or have access to power is destined to fail! America has gone down that road from at least the 1950’s. America will not truly succeed unless and until this process imposed by our government ie ended!
