I loved your video so much that I decided to do it in my living room with RIT DyeMore in Graphite. It turned out so good! At first, I was unsure, but after a second coat of the dye, it looks like brand new carpet! My carpet has been ruined by dogs and kids… and I don’t have the resources to install new carpet, so this worked perfectly for me!! Thank you!

Its been two weeks since your comment & I was curious if the carpet is still holding up? Is there any color transfer on anything else like clothes shoes? We have an extra bedroom I think I'm gonna try it on. 😀

Rit DyeMore is what you need if carpet is synthetic fiber such as polyester or acrylic. Wool carpeting is wonderful, but not common, and it can be dyed with original Rit dyes. I'm looking at an older mobile home with beautiful plushy off-WHITE carpet, but I love to be out in the yard, and it's too inconvenient and chilly to change footgear everytime I go in or out. So it's VERY exciting to learn that there's a common synthetic dye for this!

Thank you for watching the video Deborah. The video shows steps to consider before you dye your carpet. In my experience I had small carpet laying around so I tried it first before dying my carpet or you can use spray bottle with your mixture to make sure you like the color before you dye your carpet. I have a small bissel which takes me along time to finish the carpet I need to mix and refill the container how many times so I can coat my carpet 3 to 4 times to cover the area which I was happy with the result I also clean my machine right away.
@ms79ta Жыл бұрын
Did it effect your machine? I worry the brush will later press dye in again or it will ruin the motor. How did the carpet hold up? Any dye come off on your feet or socks?

Thank you so much for sharing this dear one =) I know that took some effort, both the carpet work AND filming it for others to see & learn. Very generous of you to do so. We just bought a used motorhome w/beige carpet that is good quality, wool carpet but quite stained & spotty. I think this is a great way to fix the problem, plus it's only one long strip~ about 3 feet wide by 15 feet long. I really like the brown shade you used here, & it will look nice since my colors in the RV are blues & browns~ yay! Thanks again for your time~ Samantha/AZ

Loved it so much that we are planning to try it this weekend.😊 I always had thought about trying to dye carpet but never thought it was possible till I saw a short video on TikTok and decided to search on KZbin and found your amazing video. question in total how many coats did you do? If we use the rit dye fixative do we still use the vinegar mixture? or would that just be a protective top coat? Or what process do you recommend?🤔
@filamcraftideasproject55163 жыл бұрын
Thank you Daniela for watching the video and your feedback. I used 3 coats to cover all the area in the carpet. About vinegar its optional but according to my research using vinegar can protect the color or last the color of your carpet longer. I know this is probably a stupid question, but do you just push the button on your steam cleaner to spray out the die the whole time because if you release the button, then you'll be sucking back up the water like to clean it.
@filamcraftideasproject55163 жыл бұрын
That is a good question Caryn. When you spray push the button one to three times to cover the area of your carpet, it is sucking back up the dye mixture but you can push it back again until the dye is gone.

Why not just get one of those sprayers instead of sucking it up and wasting the dye
@filamcraftideasproject55163 жыл бұрын
Yes you can use pump up sprayer or backpack pump sprayer to dye your carpet but also you need a rake or grooming brush while dying carpet to work the dye into the fibers evenly. Since I own vacuum cleaning machine I don't need to use one of those pump sprayer.
@RV-there-Yet Жыл бұрын
It actually does not waste the dye, because you keep respraying until the dye solution is all gone~ effectively getting several layers by re-using. This is also good because several coats/passes are needed to get a good, solid color transfer. It's better to lay down several lighter applications, rather than saturating the carpet & pad in one go, having to wait a long time for it to dry, especially down under the carpet &/or pad. *I'm only offering this much info because I had your same thought, until I did it myself. Tried a few different methods, & this channel's method is the most thorough & even, w/best drying time~ just allow carpet to dry somewhat in between layers. It ends up more even & professional looking, as opposed to the splotchy results we had using an air sprayer. Hope my extremely loooong comment is helpful to someone =)
