@ I don’t remember but it’ll be different for everyone since my space may be smaller or bigger than yours. But one rule is start by the least amount of dye and go darker if you like. I started super dark by accident and I should have diluted it some more to make it lighter.

Hi thanks! It depends on how dark you want it. I would suggest dissolving the dye in hot water to make sure you’re not left with any undissolved particles (like me!) and testing a spot like inside a closet or something to make sure it’s the shade you want. Start light. My living and dining areas are a total of about 22x30ft I used about 8 bottles.

Here's a more expensive dye alternative to the Rit DyeMore, but it's made just for carpets so it doesn't need the heat that Rit DyeMore requires for best results: 5th Generation Carpet Dye (cheapest colors are black or dark gray) which should be used with 5th Generation Dye Set Penetrant.

I think I did 5 but I should have used way less. Less is good. You don’t want to use to much dye like I did because then there is powder residue and gets on the socks. Dilute and dissolve as much as possible and try to go lighter.

We already swapped it for laminate but we did get some transfer due to our socks. But that’s because (like I’ve mentioned to others in the comments it’s because I used too much dye. So add s bit of the dye and test a spot inside of a closet or something. Too much dye tends to just become residue.

@OurClassicHome
@OurClassicHome 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Amber! I think I used too many and that’s why it came out as dark as it did. So it depends on the color of the rug that you have already. Light rugs will take less and so on. What I would do is test an area out of the way. I used a spot that my couch would be on top of. Start with only a little bit with water rub in let it dry and see if you like it. Then come up with the formula. ie: 1/2 bottle per gallon? Then add more to your liking. Hope that helps!

@ourclassichome ouch! I had a room with ceramic tile, the contractor used padding on that room. The laminate had pre-installed padding, so it wasn't needed for the rest of the house. I bet you're happy to have it done. I love my new floor as I hate carpet. The next thing you absolutely must buy is one of these vacuum mop robots. I recommend the Dreame L20 ultra. Also there's a product called "QuickShine" ($9.99), that temporarily makes your floors shine like glass. It's super easy just mop 3 coats. I use it when guests are coming over. It probably did but I planned to toss it after the job. I would get a little throw rug and try it on that before going anywhere else in the home with carpet cleaner just in case. BUT...I ended up using a sprayer (linked) SO MUCH BETTER! Let me know if you have any more questions Steve! Thanks for watching Sandy

This is a bad idea. Rit dye needs to be washed out with soap and water to remove residue. That dye is going to transfer to furniture, clothing etc. Anyone who has dyed cloth knows u must put it in the washing mashing after. It’s a good idea for an area rugs. I’m going to try it on a 3x 5 rug that I was about to throw away for looking faded.

What happened? Mines was great for the time I needed. It was a temporary fix. I liked it better then pink carpet that’s for sure. I already have new floors if you look at my videos about the laminate.

@@OurClassicHome c'mon -this would be ok if you were living on deserted island and could not buy a new one...but carpets are so cheap nowadays that you could almost buy a new one for the money you paid for colors!and just remember how much effort and time you invested and still later had tbuy a new one!?let's put it this way... - would you do it again ?

Yes if I had to do it again, but not at this scale it wore me out. Some people may have that kind of money but I did not have $7,000 laying around when we moved in, if not I would not have taken the drastic project.

Hey Matthew its just a temporary fix for now, everyone that visits can't believe it was dyed they think it was the original color. Hopefully we can come up with the money to bite that bullet soon!

Experimental processes are often messy. But good results, except that less dye (less residue) would've helped.
