+MyREDTAIL cherry I believe comes out red, I go off of the color the package is. Normally is pretty close to the end color.

You say to let the boiled water cool. "How Cool?" Still hot, just not boiling... or cooled to room temp?
@SchaferMagnant8 жыл бұрын
+tmjudd1 All you want to do is take it off of the burner for minute or two to let it cool down from a boil. Still want the water to be hot when you put the koolaid and vinegar in along with the feathers.

Just tried your method. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical, at first... but "WOW!" It works perfectly! Lots of color... simply amazing! I'm looking at the ingredients on the Kool-Aid package and now wondering if the same technique would also work using nothing but 'food coloring'? Have you tried this?
@SchaferMagnant8 жыл бұрын
tmjudd1 I don't see why it wouldn't work with food coloring to be honest. It may be worth a shot. I will admit i have no experience with it so I'm not sure what type of experience you'll have with it. If you try it let us know how it goes! Schafer

Food coloring works! Same process, however. The dye didn't want to completely set after the initial soak. The feathers were staining my fingers while laying them out to dry... but that was an easy fix. I simply rinsed the feathers in cold water and then gave them another soak in very warm vinegar/water for a few minutes followed by another cold water rinse. "Problem solved!" I now have some great looking 'copper' colored cock feathers and clean fingers! I used copper colored food coloring meant for for cake icing. :) 1/4 teaspoon of food coloring seems to equal 4 packs of Koolaid. I used an 8" diameter pot which probably helps to concentrate the dye.

Arrow Feathers Are so Expensive today, I don't know Why, As Turkey Feathers are Available by the Truck loads, What about Chicken,? Or even Duck Feathers, Should work great also for Fletching Arrows etc.
@SchaferMagnant7 жыл бұрын
+MyREDTAIL personally I don't have any experience with anything but turkey feathers, I have heard good thing about goose feathers though.
