Your hair came out beautifully! I was using just henna with lemon and chamomile tea, but then I heard that the amla powder would keep my hair from drying as much, as well as keep the curl pattern from loosening. Now I use a package of Light Mountain Red Henna (with the fox on the package) 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 6-7 drops of lavender oil and add Chamomile tea to a yogurt consistency) Then add 1/4 cup of amla powder (mixed separately due to not needing to set-up as long) I blend everything together at the end. I use the whole package of henna, but only use half the mixture to blend with the 1/4 cup amla. (I freeze the other half package to use 5-6 weeks later on the roots and mix 1/4 cup amla in after it has thawed and is ready to apply) My natural hair is dark brown, shoulder length and 30%-40% Grey so I get some really nice "highlights" using the henna mixture. My page picture is a good representation of the color I get now. I love using only natural hair products and I also follow the Curly Girl Method. I would love to have copper color but alas I have such dark brown hair to begin with and do not want to bleach it (ever) Thank you for promoting pure, natural, hair coloring plants and ingredients, people are so afraid of henna and it gets a very bad rap from hair colorists, who want everyone to pay them a small fortune and waste hours in their chair.

I mix half body art quality henna, half cassia with filtered water and lime juice (about 3 parts water to 1 part lime juice). In some strand tests, the lime juice gave the henna the most coppery color vs lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. In my experience teas are not acidic enough to make a lasting stain, but I also have very hard water with lime scale (think how Tums neutralize acid) that causes other problems, because henna needs acid. I divide my mixture into single use sized tupperware and FREEZE it. Freezing it bursts the plant molecules, releasing all the lawsone, so once it is thawed out= instant dye release. No guess work on dye release. For roots that have grown out a long time, I apply this mixture as is. For a maintenance "henna gloss", I mix it with an egg. Yes, a simple egg, it's a cheap protein treatment that leaves my hair very soft, shiny, makes the henna go on smoothly, and rinse out easily. I apply the glosses to the length of my hair (mind you, I only have a shaggy pixie cut) when the ends are starting to look less bright. I have naturally light dirty blonde hair (blond with cool grayish tones), and since I have been henna only for over 10 years now, any chemically colored/peroxide treated hair is long gone grown out, and cut off. I end up with an auburn like Amy Pond from Doctor Who for the first few days, then it gradually lightens into a natural copper red like I was born with it. I do shampoo my hair everyday because I have an oily scalp, and I use a clarifying shampoo, which my hair can handle. I have hard water and without clarifying it, it's always taken on a green hue which is due to my natural hair, not the henna's fault. With the henna, this turns it brown, so an acid rinse (apple cider vinegar or citric acid dissolved in water) once a week or a shampoo designed for swimmers takes that mineral build up out.

Yass girl!! You’re back!! Ive tried henna with amla and maybe because my hair was so damaged from bleach, it got a really dark color at the ends, but my roots paid off a really nice auburn color. Now im just waiting for the color to fade off so i can go over everything with henna only, and just henna and amla at the roots to get like a ombre effect. What i did to even out my hair color, was wash my hair a few times with hot water and then went over the ends with artic fox orange sunset and it turned out great! Sense artic fox is vegan and cruelty free, it doesnt have harsh chemicals over all. Since I’ve done henna, my hair looks and feels so full, soft and shiny, i think i wont go back to chemical hair dyes!

Your hair colour is amazing! Looks like you've been born with it, great job on the eyebrows as well! Love henna treatments! They helped restore my hair after I lifted chemical red dye from my natural blonde, using ColorOops. Surya Henna discontinued the neutral version since but cassia obovata can be customized with herbs that work for you. Amla is a great choice because it's moisturizing and cooling. Chamomile is nice if you want more golden tones in your hair (also favourable for natural blondes). Try hibiscus tea next time to oomph the reds and boost overall hair growth. Other popular henna boosters are Ingido (blue tones), Red onion skins tea (burgundy brown + hair growth booster) and Coffee or black tea (dark brown). Since I'm blonde, I stick to neutral blends for cassia (amla, shikakai, lavender, chamomile) and I always use an ACV rinse to get residue out of my scalp and the rest comes off easy with a boar bristle brush. ACV should make your hair appear brighter and feel softer, but I like to "seal" all the hard work with oil packs. Nigella, sweet almond, egg yolk etc.

I have thick long curly hair I would need a lot! 100 grams/ 1/2 cup of henna 100 grams/ 1/2 cup of cassia 3 tablespoons of amla 3 Camille tea = to 4 cups? A splash of Apple cider vinegar Almond oil or Coconut oil (i'm allergic to almonds sadly) Olive oil & Aloe Vera Gel? I would love to try this at home and see if I could match your color! I naturally have blond hair and have slowly been doing cooper highlight and want to fully commit! But the cost of doing so is so expensive...like $200 or more. I love your beautiful personality and your hair so much. I am so interested reading all these different tweeks and recipes. No bleaches and harsh chemicals. Plant based is best. I used to Henna my long hair for 20 or so years with a Pakistani Henna available in Australia. I have fine hair. It stopped split ends, made my hair stronger and shiny and easier to brush. Most of all I loved the chestnut and coppery tones. I have green eyes and an olive complexion and my favourite colour is green. Red hair looks amazing with that. Since I have gone grey I have reluctantly stopped with the Henna as my temples are white with the mixed silver and natural brown hair for the rest. I am slowly going silver now as the henna grew out years ago. I would still actually like to Henna but I don’t want my temples to go fluorescent, so any recipes or ideas would be appreciated.

I wonder how I can get this color when my hair is a little darker brown than yours to start with. Any ideas? I wonder how to lighten first
@jessicah34505 жыл бұрын
Henna can only turn hair redder, not lighten hair. You’d have to bleach it first a few shades lighter, to a medium blond. Don’t worry, the henna will make your hair very healthy and repair damage from the bleach. Use a henna and cassia mixture. If you’re new to henna, there are plenty of premixed henna mixtures on Amazon. Lush is popular, but overpriced and doesn’t give very good long term results. I used the premixed powders for a couple of years before buying the herbs separately to make my own color mixture. Any copper red or strawberry red kit will give this color on medium-dark (dishwater) blond hair. I have naturally dishwater blond hair. The color is also more orange the first few days, especially if it was mixed with a strong acid like lemon juice, but then your actual color will develop. Lemon or lime juice is good for copper and bright reds. Tea is good for hair that may be dried out by lemon or lime juice, but won’t affect the color. The first time that I henna my hair, I also wrap my hair in a plastic shower cap and a hair scarf and sleep with it in my hair. Then wash it out in the morning. That will make the color the most vibrant and long lasting. But you can leave it in 2-4 hours and get good color.

Can you put henna over color treated hair, that hasn't been colored for 4 months? I'm a natural brunette but I dye my hair coppery red. However my hair is pretty damaged so I want to stop dying it with chemicals.
@tufitita4 жыл бұрын
Yes.. I had very dry bleached hair and henna made it much healthier, you will need a few applications of henna though, as the first application will turn out orange.

Hi Courtney, I'm so glad that you have a whole playlist of videos dedicated to your love and application of henna. You helped me with my henna research before I started dying my hair with henna! I have been using henna now for almost a year, and I've kind of run into a problem. It's getting really dark. I am a natural redhead, but my hair color lightened, and I looked more blonde before I started using henna. Any tips on how I can lighten up my hair using henna or casia?

I've used Sun-in to lighten my henna before and it definitely works! It's subtle though. Also I would just stop applying the henna to the ends of the hair, just do root touchups for several months and it will begin to fade and lighten up overtime!

@@CourtneyVioletta you had a video where you showed how you were pre lightening your roots with a chemical red dye before doing the henna so you were getting a lighter copper. I can't find that video can you please share the link to it? I need to see how you were doing it as I am doing the same thing. I need to lighten my natural medium brown 2 levels with chemical dye then put henna over.

How did you get the darker colour out of your hair was it bleach if so what did you use. I need to lighten my hair as it's quite dark but have used henna before and a bit nervous xx
@bayareababe5 жыл бұрын
Don’t use bleach. It’s not necessary. Use color oops. As long as the henna you have in your hair doesn’t have metallic salts your good to use color oops. I just did it 3 times in a row to lighten my brown color to a natural red (henna of course) it worked GREAT and NO DAMAGE

Use color oops. It will lighten that dark you have in there to a natural red beautiful color. As long as the henna you used doesn’t have metallic salts (you used body art quality ) your good to use color oops.

Henna definitely helps create a more even template! I always had the issue of the ends of my hair not holding color and now they're just as vibrant as the rest! And thank you for watching my videos, I'm so grateful!

Worried. I've done a 50/50 mix of Henna and Cassia. I know Henna is permanent, but Cassia isn't is it? So will the Cassia part fade out leaving just the Henna at some point in the near future? I really don't want that!

I did use l’oreal to color my hair and it gives me a nice stawberry blond color. Now I would like to switch for henna, but I’m scared the henna will react with the previous chemical. What do you think? Thank you!!
@CourtneyVioletta6 жыл бұрын
It'll be totally fine! As long as you use 100% pure henna like the kind from hennasooq or even the lush brand, it doesn't react with chemicals! "Box dye" henna is usually the main issue, they can be found at health food stores and places like that, and they react with chemicals!

Hi! I have a question do you know which part of your recipe makes your hair a lighter ginger color ? Because I would like a more flashy one but I really like your recipe.

Cassia makes it more copper! I would play around with the cassia to henna ratio. When I did it, I would use 30% henna : 70% cassia to get a more copper tone!
