Just to let you all know, purple neutralizes yellow, so before you dye it your hair should be a nice pale blonde but if it does have some yellow in it the dye should neutralize it :) It's also very nice because as the lavender fades it tones your hair and by the end you should have a pretty silvery blonde! This could save your hair if you're worried about getting it white just with bleach.

Actually it doesn't open the cuticle (warm water does this though). Shampoo DOES clean off the layer of hairspray, sweat, oil, dirt, and conditioner that was on your hair from the last time you washed it though. This helps the colour stick longer because there's nothing in between the dye and the hair. When you're done, rinse your hair in water as cold as possible and this seals the cuticle back up :)

i can't really find a constantly consistent result with this, but generally ive found that if its towel dried, the colour's always a bit more diluted, almost like the dampness waters it down a bit...i find that shampooing and drying it still opens the cuticle (plus the heat from the hairdryer opens it more), its just really dry and puffy to try and work with after :-p (just my experimental experience)

when I was little lilac hair was very popular among our old ladies. sometimes they had pastel blue hair. I was always wondering why that ladies had lilac hair and then my mom told me that they used ink, just regular school ink to dye the hair :)

i know how you feel. i'm asian and of course my hair is black, but one bit of advice is that if you are bleaching your hair at home then GO SLOW you don't always have to use the highest vol. of peroxide. :}

Yes it does! Purple is the only color that fades into a pretty color. blue fades into a weird white and green is just awful. but it takes a long time! The color is very strong at first and then it fades but stays kinda purple! it takes a LONG time for it to be blonde-white again

Can you get Directions Violet from sallys beauty supply? My hair is already bleach blonde, so all I do is put the dye it, right? And it wont damage your hair? If you wash it a lot in hot water it will fade. And it will fade because of the conditioner. Thats why you want to wash your hair with conditioner thats mixed with your dye.

I've seen the premixed pastels at several places. But they're all semi. And I don't wanna mess with immediate color fade. If you buy the dark color like you did here and miss the conditioner to lighten it, does that give it more of a permanent retention?
