Here is an introduction to some key principles for accessing your weapon in a dynamic context from our EDC download. While every effort is made to detect, avoid and deescalate danger, and while ideally we would prefer to maintain distance and avoid accessing our weapons after we have been engaged, this bleak situation can still nevertheless be necessary.

A technique I use to ensure reliable one-handed draws is simply to press my palmheel and thumb into my belly to pin the lifted shirt up, then with a slight wrist rotation down I can reach for the draw. Very small motions, works very well. An extra detail is first flicking with the fingers as I press to clear the opposite side of the shirt.

Very small motions are next to impossible under conditions of stress. My suggestion would be pressure test it while getting punched and grabbed vigorously by a partner. One handed draws are good for subtle conditions but not ideal for the context of a dynamic exchange.

@@pcsprajapaticombatsystemdd8116 thank you. Unfortunately I closed my school last year and for the meantime I’m only teaching private contracts, mostly to law enforcement and military. I do occasional seminars in the U.S. and Europe. Where about are you living in India.

Hi Kevin, again thanks for the very informative and concise content. What are thoughts on blades carried inside the waistband and dynamic/discret access?

I’ve carried inside the waistband. Personally I prefer something with a retention ring in those cases like Fred perrin’s la griffe, the SOCP, or a karambit

I have it. I enjoy it. It’s great to hold in a gloved hand and you jog on a cool night and still easy to open. I do find it heavy In a pocket however .
