I'm starting next month. By 2025 I'll have my MS in Cybersecurity. You can transfer up to 90 credits or 75% of the degree. I had some certs already, then used Sophia to get just above 60 credits within 6 months total (also renewing certs). This was a 4 month Sophia subscription, around $300. CompTIA offers a paid membership to get discounts on certs/training if you need it. I'm studying now for one of the classes when I enroll (another cert, but it's included in tuition). This way I can save time in my 6 month semester and squeeze more in. After grants and scholarships, I can effectively get these costs down to 2k-3k total. You can do it too, I believe in you.

Every school notes it slightly differently on transcripts, but if your employer actually knew what they were looking for (most don’t, they just accept that a conferred regionally accredited degree is a degree) they could see the original source of the credit. There is typically a summary section for each school/platform you transferred in credits from. You shouldn’t have any problems though, just make sure if you’re using tuition reimbursement from your company that you don’t do anything shady in their eyes 😝

BA vs. BS gets a lot of talk time, but there’s not much of a difference. :) The former has a heavier focus on arts and humanities courses, the latter is more STEM focused. But when your major is already STEM it becomes even more inconsequential 😎 We would argue WGU is plenty reputable, but SNHU and TESU are good options as well.

@CollegeHacked Жыл бұрын
The vast majority of people major in something completely different than the job(s) they end up having :) The bachelors degree is the important part, not the major, so don’t stress yourself too much! My top recommendation if you don’t know what you want to do yet is to experiment with different types of classes in a build your own major (usually called Liberal Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, or General Studies). That way you can use your college experience to do more poking around into industries you might be interested in. You can always go back for a grad degree or certificate later if you fall in love with something and it requires you to have additional education. :) Check out UMPIs YourPace Liberal Studies Management degree.

No, unless it’s non-licensure (too regulated, can’t hack very much). It depends; UoP DOES now have a partnership with Sophia, so it is possible (as well as accepting CLEP & DSST).
@MateDrinker33 Жыл бұрын
UoP DOES now have a partnership with Sophia, (as well as still accepting CLEP & DSST), so it is possible to cutdown the time somewhat. One snag with them (out of many) is that it’s asynchronous 9-week classes w/ a 75% transfer limit (with their Masters programs, this limit is 18 credits to a 36 credit program) so if you top off a BS/BA degree with with 90 transfer credits, you can potentially finish the remaining 30 credits in as little as about 45 weeks- or about 10 1/2 months- if you commit to taking two classes per 9-week period, faster if you increase this to three or more per segment. Note that UoP has a larger-than-typical number complaints about the quality and professionalism of their adjunct professors as well as the fact that there is no way they are going to be able to exit pre-accreditation status with WASC until after their next pre-scheduled site visit in March of 2024 (TRANSLATION: All credit earned before successful WASC accreditation will still only transfer out as National rather than Regional credit, a potential killjoy for many Masters programs).

Even the whole SNHU debacle recently turned out to be a false-positive 🙏🏼 I just called a couple different WGU locations and talked to advisors and they said they haven’t heard of any changes coming yet, so we’ll continue to cross our fingers and keep an ear to the ground!

@@CollegeHacked Well thats good, I had my initial call about a week ago and told him I would be taking Sophia classes. Towards the end of the conversation I said i'd get cracking on the Calculus 1 prereq (done now) and he said the only risk with 3rd parties is that they MIGHT stop taking the credits at some point. I don't know if this was a hint or what. I worked hard to finish the Calc course quickly and just finished Intro to IT so it made my heart sink a bit to see this comment.
@CollegeHacked Жыл бұрын
@@JC-ss2sn The advisor is right, the school could choose to stop taking certain third parties, but if they are going to do that it’s virtually always between June-August and typically they make an announcement about it. At most schools you can avoid this problem by applying and locking yourself into a degree year during which the courses were accepted. Then even if they stop taking the credits for incoming students, they still take yours because you’re on a policy year that allows it. Of course that doesn’t work at WGU though, because you can’t enroll until all your hacking is done 😜 The rule of thumb for them is to do all your hacking very quickly, from August-May so the rules don’t potentially change in the middle of your hacking window.

Would you say going for the alternative credit approach is much faster than just taking everything at WGU? I understand it's much cheaper and as you noted would take around 7-12 months, but how long would taking those courses be through WGU? I'm starting next month and currently doing Calculus 1 on Sophia because it's required for the CS program. As I'm doing this I'm wondering if I should just delay my start date and continue on Sophia/Study IF the time would be much quicker to complete. If the benefit is just the cost I would probably still do everything at WGU because of consistency and financial aid. I have nothing to transfer in besides the Calc 1 I'm currently doing.
@CollegeHacked Жыл бұрын
Hypothetically, the caliber of the classes is the same. But in reality, one requires a proctored final exam and one is open book open notes exams.
