Work in a Hospital Emergency Dept. Highest influx of tool related injury cases stem from use of small angle grinders to cut masonry. Usually, loss of fingers where no gloves are worn and eye injuries. Make your own mind-up!

Thanks for posting this fact. I worked in the metal working industry, what a nightmare and I did safety seminars. Next time someone comes into your ER tell them an angle grinder is the most dangerous tool in the shop because it is. Face shield, gloves (contrary to another poster), respirator under the full face shield, hat. The RPM this grinder is spinning is insane without getting out my angle grinder, I believe it's 7,500 rpm. That's per minute. You can see the damage it does if you google what it can do to a person's face. It ain't pretty. Industrial accidents are gruesome. I've seen enough of them after 30 years on the road selling machine tools and related products ie power tools.

How would wearing gloves protect against loss of fingers?

I can tell you for a fact gloves don't matter much for a grinder at all. I had a grinder jump on me and go straight into my thumb cutting my tendon. Went through a welding glove like a hot knife through butter

I had a lot of old pipes and rebar to cut up and from what I read kzbin.infoUgkxPDBfLu68o58Aw85O_J-zIFfjJARBhp-3 this would be the tool for the job. Since I had never used one, I watched a couple of youtube videos and I'm so glad I did. Some really good safety tips, which I followed, and this tool did a splendid job. One good thing to know is the weight of the tool puts just about the right amount of pressure on the metal I was cutting, so I didn't have to use a lot of pressure, which is more likely to jam the tool. It made fast work of my job.

@vistron888
@vistron888 3 жыл бұрын
@@volvot5turbo With a 9" be especially careful. Very hard to control. Just cut from both sides if you need a good clean cut but make sure whatever you're cutting is held unless it's something like a large paver which will be heavy enough. If you don't have a proper way of clamping the bricks you can sandwich them between some old large paving stones to keep them held. Usually cut in a straddled position with your feet apart so if there is any kind of kickback it will just go through your legs. But if doing a lot then maybe hire or invest in a brick saw.

Think you broke every safety rule there mate. 1. Secure the brick properly. 2. Wear gloves. 3. Wear eye safety (you might have done.). 4. Keep the cable well back from the machine. 5. Sorry, but that's not how you should use an angle grinder. A lot of people makes the same mistake and uses the AG the same on all materials. On stone and ceramics is different to metal. Dust needs to go away from you (to keep it away from the motor and because of control). The angle is completely wrong too. You cut at that steep angle only if you really have to.

I just got a Ryobi AG 4531G angle grinder and some 4 1/2 masonry cut off discs. When I opened the angle grinder up, it says to use only Type 27 depressed center wheels (recessed, or indented hubs) that fit into the recessed part of the arbor or spindle on the machine. "Never attach a Type 1 sraight or cut-off wheel..." Is this setup unique to Ryobi, or are they all like that? I have a 7 1/2 inch circular saw I've been using to cut concrete ( a very sloppy foundation job that a local contractor did), but need to get into some tight corners that I thought an angle grinder would do. Will this not work? I'm ready to return the angle grinder if I can't use it for this.

Brutal winters and without it when spring breaks it looks like the pavers morphed into a roller coaster over the winter. Our frost line here can be 6 feet deep. Ugh.
