OH my GOD. First, I can't say how impressed I was with UNRAID dealing with a Mac Pro 2019's hardware. It got most of it including the 10Gbe Nics, the USB nics, and the mac's NVME drive- more than ESX was able to work with! The only thing missing from the directions was to make sure there was a volume in the array to make sure your VM in the script could launch. Once I did that (I had to add a drive to avoid messing up the others), script worked without needing to shutdown, even though it was the primary / only card. You basically saved a very expensive card from becoming a paperweight. I do need to run this as a server, and its usefulness would be SERIOUSLY diminished without this oprom. Lifesaver.

Thank you so much, I'm looking in google if there are tutorials in bios dump in 3k series and here you are sharing that script. Working fine on my 2 x 3070 video cards. I removed my 1080ti and it works great. Now using this 2 3070 on my unraid server thanks to this tutorial. Again thank you :D

FYI!!! If the script fails, modify the script at line 49, changing variable forecereset = "yes". This will force the Unraid to go to sleep, thus you will need to press the power button on the PC case to wake up Unraid. This process will release the GPU so that script is able to dump the vbios to a file.

Home automation Hass docker, Emby, unraid stuff, NVR for security cams Blue Iris ( My BI install is more fined tuned than your video on the topic, but cool to see...), maxxed out sata ports + sas, with double etho for pfsense... I just built a rgb unicorn vomit pc to travel with while I'm on jobs in the lower '48 so I could shelf my pos MSI laptops - It's running Unraid and I've needed to dump the vbios to get it running like a daily driver - I dumped the vbios from a Win10 vm from your 3 year old video using terminal, worked fined to take over the primary but the Ubuntu VM didn't like it. I'm assuming I need to fire up the Linux VM and dump the vbios to get it working - maybe / maybe not, I'll give this way a shot, it's been on my todo list the last week.

Hi Ed. I've done a few of these using ryzen processors. If I use unraid greater than 6.9.2 the image errors and is undersized. If I create using 6.9.2 it works. Any chance of an update to this for later versions?

Its still a useful script in 2023, my server kept locking up with no gpu vbios using an AMD card on windows 11 install. Dumped the BIOS and added it to the VM and just works now.

I kept getting the "somethings gone wrong error" even after binding my card to vfio. There is a variable on line 49 of the script called forcereset. I changed it from "no" to "yes" and ran the script again. This fixed the issue for me.

Thanks! I also had to do this. It worked but the server reset a few times and one time it was missing my registration and all of my settings were reset. Another reset set the server straight but it was concerning!

Any ideas why the rom generated would be much smaller than expected? I expected approximately 1mb(what similar bios show on techpowerup) but only got 146kb running your script. I have also tried to dump the bios from gpuz and nvflash but both give errors for my RTX3070 Founders Edition. I can't dump it and cant find a copy anywhere.

I have an onboard Video Adapter that is listed as a Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09). I went through the process to run the script. Had to press the power button as it is the Primary Graphics card in the system. It wrote a ROM BIOS file and indicated it appeared small , but could work. I then edited the Windows 10 VM to select the graphics card and the location of the VBios file. Restarted the VM and recieved an error "Execution Error internal error: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor"

I have simple setup where the server host using the embedded intel gpu of my I7 6700 and a windows 10 vm booting from raw ssd using my NVIDIA 1650. My script seems to get stuck at "stopping the temp vm" after I hit the power button. If i close the script window it does appear that it dumped vBios into the folder, however it is only 50kb's which makes me think the script did not dump the complete bios? I'm having a very hard time getting a radeon 5700xt to pass through on a windows 10 vm. Cannot download AMD drivers in the vm because the AMD driver installer says "This is not an AMD system". This is despite me being able to see the gpu in the device manager on both unraid and the windows vm. Not sure if anyone can help on this but im just screaming into the void of the internet at this point.

So weird. I just bought a NVIDIA T600. i'm using a mini DP to HDMI Cable and hooked this card to my Lenovo monitor. I get no picture. Screen stays black. When I add a virtual GPU and connect by VNC I can see that the System recognizes that there is a monitor attached. I switched monitor to my Dell Alienware Monitor. Works with the same cable. No I used a mini DP to DP Adapter and connected the VM with DP to the Lenovo and it's also working. I dumped the VBIOS and added it to the VM hoping that this might fix my issues but unfortunately it only seems to work with displayport on the lenovo monitors. Such a weird problem.

Mine just hangs on Starting the temp vm to allow the dump. If i close the script and go to my vms tab it never loads. A hard reboot is requried to get out of this state. After reboot i see the test vm that was created. Any ideas ?

I'm trying to get a gtx 980 working in unraid, previously had a gtx 770 in there working flawlessly but as i upgraded my pc gpu i wanted to put my 980 into the server but unraid doesnt see the gpu. In the error code i get modprobe:error could not insert 'nvidia': no such device and nvidia-smi isnt running either is there a fix for it?

Sadly it doesn't work for me. Docker is disabled and the GPU is in the primary slot with no other GPU present - executing the script causes the system to go into Sleep mode and the script asks to press the power button. I press the power button and the system powers back on but the script does absolutely nothing and is still waiting for me to press the power button... Prior to the restart it also complains with a line complaining about 'no such file or directory' in the attempt to remove the PCI device. Great video, vbios of IGPU Intel 4600 is able to be dump but still black screen, GTX850m is recognized as 3D controller and not show in the list.

Just tried to yolo it. Left the vm (different gpu) and docker still up. The card was in slot 1. It asked me to press the power button (the vm locked), I pressed it and it unlocked and spat out a file that is less than 70k then the whole system shut down for some reason. I'll try it properly in a few days i think.

This seems to have full on broken my server. Ran the edited script and got to the point where I was prompted to press the power button. Instead of continuing on as shown in the video, the script screen lost connection and I can no longer connect to the server. If I power it off and back on, it starts to come up, then blinks off, then appears to come back up but when I ping the server address it is not there. Anyone else run into this? *EDIT* Looks like boot order got reset somehow. Which makes it hard to point fingers at the script, however it does seem to happen every time I run the script and doesn't if I reboot normally so looks like I won't be able to use this to get my vbios. :-( I still love you tho Space! Your videos have made my life with Unraid a thousand times easier.

Forgot to tell that even reset pins don't work, I switch on the power by switching the psu on, it's a supermicro board, if by accidentally shut, cmos has to be reset, to boot the system...
