But that's not what most editors want to do. Most want their say 29.97 to playback in normal speed in a 23.976 sequence. the 59.94 yes but that's just reality. I edit shows for TV with mixed framerate footage and 90 percent of it is mixed. but I need it all to play in normal speed. so you really should clarify this to people.

I have a project with different framerates. Clips have been recorded in 60, 30 and 24. But don’t need to be slowed down and have to be at 100% speed. What’s the best way to go about this?

Your video saved me with my project, where I accidentely had footage from 5 different cameras with different framerates! Unfortunately, changing fps within clip attributes doesn't affect the audio. So: If you have footage of a concert, interview etc, the audio and video is not synchronous anymore...
@rabihghannam57216 ай бұрын
I think this tequinque is only good when you are aiming to make the entire video in slow motion or when the person who shot it is disciplined enough to choose his framerates when filming. I work with many videographers and i avoid doing this because i dont want to end up having 12 hour timelines specially if you are working in the short docu style filming and the camera guy rolls carelessly. And also depends on your editing style. I like to avoid slow motion as much as possible in my edits and only use it when it is necessary. This workflow might work out for you if you are editing a wedding, and if you or your camera person is economical enough to let you only use the thumbnails in your bins to do your selects and not having to clean them up in your timeline coz of careless rolling
@rumenalexandrov6 ай бұрын
I actually find it easier to use this method, and then speed up footage in the timeline when I need. Of course if you are mostly gonna use real time then yes, better slow down as usual on the timeline.

Thank you for your practical & easy to understand tutorial. One question please. The problem with mixing frame rates is the footage that is slowed down will have its audio sound very unnatural. How can you fix this? Thanks

Hiya! What if i shoot everything on a 60fps for say a wedding? Just cause i dont know if i want the clip slow mo or not. If i do this, everything will be slow mo then? what if i want other clip to just be a normal 60fps not slowmo? would that be possible on this setup your showing? thankyou

Thank you SO MUCH Matt! This really helped me fix some 30fps shots I had inside my 24fps project and taught me a new workflow! So cool that Davinci will automatically match these different frame rates so we can keep things buttery smooth =)
@inSurfersParadise24 күн бұрын
Thank you my man. I have the opposite problem which this solved. All my footage is shot on a Blackmagic 6K in HFR. So 50 fps in a 25fps timeline. When pulled in normally the footage is twice as long as the recording in the audio track. The Audio file is the same length as the video, just the second half of it is silent. To synch it up I have in the past, had to unlink the files and retime them separately. Using this technique I can tell resolve the HFR files are at 50 fps. Then when dropped onto the timeline Davinci plays back the 50 fps video at normal speed and trims the audio track to match the regular speed video playback. YES!

Good to know! Still working out some of this stuff. Why don't we just choose 24FPS or 30FPS from the dropdowns though, why the 29.97 or 23.97 options? is it a PAL / NTSC thing? I'm sure I used to know, but of course depends on your footage too, if you shot or the metadata shows 23.97 then that's what you choose...?

If you have multiple bins you can actually select by holding shift all the bins in the left window (bin window) and in the right window it will show you all footage as if they are In one bin, which will allow you to select them as you would :)

This is not something that I was looking for. I have 60 FPS footage, and I want some of the clips to be 50% slo-mo, and the rest I want to convert to 30 FPS, so entire movie will be in 30 FPS.
@ekphotography2 ай бұрын
After watching this and reading the comments I agree with most people, this seems more tedious, specially if you do not want everything slowed down and if you want to do speed ramps. Just another reason FCPX is so much easier and faster for this case. No need to conform anything in FCPX, just slow down what ever you want when you want by hitting automatic speed or I even made a short cut option Z to do just that..
@rsmith026 ай бұрын
I don't really see how this solves the problem of mismatched framerates for any scene where you don't want it to be in slow motion. I think it's best for b-roll or scenes where it doesn't matter that it's not playing back in real time.

Thanks, I just wish Davinci would recognize the crops, transforms etc etc done in FCPX through the xml, but that is not the case. Just get black bars and bad crops, So I figure the only way to really just color grade in Davinci with a FCPX xml is you must make another timeline in FCPX and undo all crops transforms etc etc and then rebuild them after importing back into FCPX. This is also so stupid Davinci has not fixed this at all. Reply

Please help if you have any idea what my current problem could be with the new update. I brought Davinchi 18.5 pro and it was working so well but i have just updated to 18.6.6 and now its crashes constantly with in seconds of doing anything on it and im in the middle of editing a wedding so its very frustrating.

What will happened if you shoot in 25 fps and and your time-line is 30 fps and also exporting in 30 fps
@sagerosevideography6 ай бұрын
Fun fact, You can set your frame rates for all of your cameras from 1 single bin! It’s really nice when you have multiple cameras that you want to apply the frame rate to. Just go to your smart bins just below your power bins and select video clips. Every single video clip imported into the project will be in this folder!

Great stuff thank you! I just had one question: if you wanted to use stock footage that's 30fps and you record in 23.97fps, how would you have them play at their current speeds without slowing anything down? Would you just make another timeline and have them on separate ones?

Hi Matt! got a question. In this point in time do you see yourself using davinci resolve more than premiere? And if not are you considering making the switch? Im asking because my bother is pro premiere and im pro davinci 😅🤣
@JoshBirman6 ай бұрын
Do you want to make slowing down your mixed frame rate food EVEN EASIER?! You can actually set up Resolve to AUTOMATICALLY slow down your mixed frame rates on import! You never have to think about frame rates again. Just import the footage, drop it on the timeline, and it's automatically set to slow motion. Plus, this doesn't change the frame rate inside the Clip Attributes, so you won't run into any issues when making proxies! And all your mixed frame rate clips will show their original frame rate in the media pool. Go to your Project Settings - General Options - under Conform Options select the "Mixed frame rate format" drop down - set that to "None" You will need to set this up when you very first create a new project file. If you create any timelines the option will be greyed out.

Great video, thanks for making it Matt! But - I have a problem that goes slightly deeper; I've shot a bunch of footage on my phone - both dialogue and b-roll, sometimes even (mistakenly) in the same clip. Sadly my phone records footage in 30 fps by default and I live in Europe so I need to sync it to a PAL 25 fps timeline. I can live with the dialogue sections being choppy, but I want to slow down the b-roll slightly to match the TL setting. NOW - if I split the 30 fps clip, right-click the b-roll part and and change the video frame rate to 25, it still changes the playback rate on BOTH clips, meaning the dialogue goes out of sync with the audio. Very annoying. Is there a way around this that you know of? Many thanks!

What a convoluted mess. This is why I use Final Cut. It should not make any difference what the frame rate is of your clips. In FCP if I have a 30 fps timeline, everything I drop there will be 30 fps regardless of what frame rate it is shot at. There is no timing change. If the clip was 5 seconds long at 120 fps and another is 5 seconds long at 24 fps and you drop them on the same timeline, they are both 5 seconds long. FCP takes care of conforming everything. This blatantly shows that Resolve is a grading tool first and foremost, it was not until it had been around for a decade that they decided to add some rudimentary editing tools.
@whoismatt6 ай бұрын
I'm afraid you're a bit confused. You can drop a higher frame rate clip on a 24fps timeline and it will playback at normal speed. This shows you how to make all of your high frame rate clips slow motion, saving a lot of time.
@aldolega6 ай бұрын
AFAIK every NLE will do a pull-down or skip frames to keep different-fps clips at normal speed, unless you tell them to re-time. FCPX is not unique in this.

@@whoismatt Can you explain how to do this? I'm currently having an issue getting 60 FPS videos to play back on a 24FPS timeline at regular speed.
@HassanAmBusaidi14 күн бұрын
@ImaginetMedia If your timeline is 30 fps, and you drop there a 30 fps will play smoothly, because 1 second in your timeline equal 30 fps, ( 30 fps means 30 photos ). But if you drop a 60 fps to the 30fps timeline than the software (any software) will play ONLY 30 fps (30 photos), the rest photos will NOT play, this called CHOPPY.
