I know this channel is geared towards men's tailoring, but I'm a woman and I've found that most of the time hoodies are sized for men and are super baggy on me (same with t-shirts). I'm new to tailoring and so many of these tutorials are just what I need. I'm looking forward to using some of these methods on my clothing!

Awesome. Thanks for putting this out there. I'm a tall skinny dude (6.6" 225) and it's tough finding stuff that fits. Buying larger tall stuff and altering down is the answer to get sleeve length without swimming in it. Appreciate you, man! Carhartt has awesome tall sized hoodies but you're quickly swimming in them. Bringing in the sides makes them way more practical esp if you're wearing a tool belt.

Yes I guess it is sometimes better and faster to buy sewing machine and learn how to use it then spending your entire life in shops looking for clothing that will fit you perfectly. It is close to miracle. My grandmother taught me how to adjust (tailor) shirts, trousers and even jackets and how to use sewing machine and I´m very glad she did, because tailors can get pretty expensive. If you really want to look good in what you are wearing, it needs to fit you. And you got to be very lucky to find anything that fits you right away, without need of tailor. And BTW, you are great :)

Hey Stylish, can you do a video that covers underarm bunching.or really bunching in general Ive. run into this a few times already where the hoodie is too large and it bunches where the sleeve meets the torso. I'm able to blindly power my way through it but I'd love to have why it happens and how to prevent it down to a science. Love your videos! I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've ever commented on any channel. So from my meaningless merit you're an awesome channel
@StylishDTailors
@StylishDTailors 3 жыл бұрын

@nolankuffner3573
@nolankuffner3573 2 жыл бұрын
Too much room in the torso (width of the hoodie), the sleeve, or the chest (depth of the hoodie). Sometimes, you can get ill effects if the top is too long, but that's less an issue with your top half than the bottom. Buying clothes that are too big will always create unnecessary effects like bunching and blousing (tops), and wisping and breaking (bottoms). Wisping and blousing are fairly similar, where the garment is too wide or too deep. Breaking is a result of pants being too long. 95% of the time, bunching occurs when blousing is present. But slim fit clothing isn't the best option, but clothing that is selected based on your particular body type. If you're not slim, it's not going to fit you correctly. So maybe (e.g.) Under Armour makes a close fitting top but your body type is less athletic 'V' and more pear shaped. Those fits likely won't be flattering or give you the desired look. Finding clothes with stretch is good as they'll be more adaptable to the person wearing them, but finding the right cut is more important. Try not to buy from brands you're not able to try on, to avoid companies that won't accept returns if something doesn't work, and to not be afraid to buck a trend if it means being more conscious about your shape. Having spent years in men's wear and the fashion business, I've seen far too many guys try to force a look and it just not working out. So, three tips to remember: 1) Know your shape and like your body. Self hatred isn't productive, but a desire for betterment. They aren't the same thing. 2) Find a tailor who you can trust and build a relationship with them. That way, they'll get to know what works and be able to better accomodate. 3) If you need to get something fitted, start with something close. Pants can be shortened A LOT (I've seen dress slacks shortened up to a full 15 inches). Waistbands and intricately printed clothing? Not so much. If you're buying something decent that's way too big or small, don't expect to wear it, or for it to be flattering in any way. So I'm not sounding overly negative, I'll stress: if you have comfy clothes that are too big, keep it for lounging at home or consider donating. People are always in need and bigger sizes can be hard to find.

My issue is that I like "baggy" hoodies, or relaxed fit. The upper half fits nicely but then the lower half/waist is loose and wide.. looks sloppy, ill-fitted. I prefer the lower waist part to be more tapered, I don't mean figure-hugging like in this video, just more contoured.

My preferred method is to buy a slim fit hoodie in XL. Then, shrink it in the dryer. Hoodies always shrink in the washer/dryer. So think ahead. My XL was big at first, but now it fits like a large. It's perfect. And because I bought it in slim fit. There is no need for tailoring. Edit: This guy's hoodie looks great, I should learn to sew. 👍🏻

Bro thank you so much for the hacks! You're the best at what you do. Can I ask you to do a video on making a shirt from scratch. Or taking a shirt that you love and duplicating it? Thank you again.

Yes I can, I made a t-shirt cloning video a few years ago but I definitely need to remake it!

@@StylishDTailors 🙏🏽 I feel like men's fashion, unless Taylored, is like one size fits all and your channel speaks to men who work out and want to have choice. Thank you for the response and when and if you make that video I know it will be great. Thanks

Do you have a tutorial for adding sleeve and trunk length to a hoodie? My teen is stretching out but staying slim and he loves his current collection of college pullover hoodies.

what about adjusting shoulder opening, is it still possible this way ? I'd imagine cheap hoodies have a huge opening
