I like the practicality of her method. When she said to use a calculator for the harder ones, it worked! Then I thought "why stop at the harder ones?" and used a calculator for medium level too and that was really helpful. The easy ones I didn't really need a calculator for. All in all, good stuff and love the practical approach!

Hi. I am following your video with multiplication hacks, I am trying teach my 8 yr old daughter how to do this. What if I don’t know which finger to tuck in get the answers, I saw you put 9*5 you tucked in left thumb and 5 fingers out to get 45. What if I am not sure of my answers for my multiplication I tuck in my right thumb trying to 9*5 I am going get 54. I got the hang of what you doing, but for someone who not so sure. You are amazing in your teaching and also inspiring.
@PurelyPersistent3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment!! I appreciate it. When multiplying 9x5, you need to tuck in your left thumb. You are then left with 4 on the left hand and 5 on the right hand which gives you 45. I hope this helps! (I did it incorrectly in the video - yikes!!)

The digits in a single-digit multiple of 9 always add up to 9. 5 x 9 = 45 and 4 + 5 = 9. 3 x 9 = 27 and 2 + 7 = 9. etc. For single-digit multiples of 9, the first digit in the answer is always 1 less than the factor we're multiplying 9 by. 5 x 9 = 45 and 4 is one less than 5. 3 x 9 = 27 and 2 is one less than 3. etc. Therefore, combining these 2 principles, the answer to any single-digit multiple of 9 will always have the first digit being 1 less than the factor, and the second digit being the difference to give you 9 when you add the two digits in the answer together.

the reasons why most struggle with their times tables is this... 'they spend more time looking at the 'multiplication sign' than actually taking that sign and 'flipping it on it's side.. like so... all multiplications are simply additions example is 2x2=4 then 2+2 must also be 4 instead of trying to figure out what the X= just add the numbers together in the multiple phase for example if 3+3=6 then you know that 2x3 also = 6. without 'addition' there simply wouldn't exist 'multiplication' as all multiplication implies is to 'ADD' in a group phase ;D PS, When trying to memorise always visualise you 1-10 counter as this counter is the foundation to 'ALL' other multiplication counters be it you 1s 2s 3s especially your 7s and even 'for some who like to take it further 14s with 12s being the norm :)

I see a lot of reference to skip counting which doesn't really work in a practical sense. When kids are trying to use their multiplication facts in other math problems, stoping to skip count on their fingers or whatever, slows them down and they're not actually learning the facts themselves. They need to memorize the fact families. 7, 3, and 21 go together. When they know this, they can multiply and divide using this fact family. They NEED to learn these facts. Skip counting does NOT help with this.

I née help memorizing the 2, 3, 4 and I'm half way through and she just like oh it's easy cross it off you already know it. Well I don't already know it. Once I get past a certain number I don't have the 2s and 3s and 4 memorized. Then she's like this is easy and if it's too Har just use a calculator well for 1 it snot easy for me. Math is the hardest thing I do all day if it comes up and 2 I'm going to an aptitude test for a job and I can't bring a calculator I need to re learn this stuff. So I'm glad it's easy for you and you know it but some of us don't or have learning disabilities and need to go over it again. Obviously we cna cross off the 1s but I would have liked for you to have at least ready through the 2s and 3s and 4s instead of crossing them off. So I'm half way through the video and feeling frustrated and still don't know my 2s 3s or 4s
