I had one of these today. Lost about 70% of my line. Like you, new line. Had a go at unpicking it but the loops were so deep under the mess that i couldn't find them. I cut the line over a bin and bits still ended up on the floor. Actually had a similar one just a day before when my thumb slipped but managed to unpick that one. My luck ran out.

I only use these reels on boats to lower bait, spinning reels works best for haselfree casting

That's true but there is a use for these reels off the shore

Hi Dave, How does this happen is it because the drag isn't set enough or summat? I've only used a multiplier once on a boat last week and there was a little twisty thing on the side.. is that the drag? Also what are the benefits of using a multiplier from the beach, I find most fish within short distance really. But I have not yet caught a Ray or Hound can I need more distance for these fish and therfore a multiplier? Cheers J

I honestly don't know. I suppose it could be a few things. Mags may be off more then I knew. Something gets caught up and stops the cast but spool keeps spinning. Jerky cast maybe. Over spooled and spooled to loosely. There could be a number of reasons. My advice to anyone new to multis is. Spool it as tight as you can and cast with mags on full and lightly thumb the spool when it's going out. Distance don't matter 95% of the time rays will be like flounder 20 -30 yards out Fixed spools are the way to go that's my opinion. But I need the option for the ratchet as I planned to tope fish so got multis and I think it's a neater looking setup.

The thing that looks like a spider is the drag anti clockwise loosens it's clockwise tightens it

Had way too much line on it, still looked a bit over even when you cut that lot off it. Needs to 1/8 inch 3mm from the lip start really at a minimum or you get issues.

Might be del but I always spool them to the max and normally it's fine but this cast wasn't obviously lol

It happens because line is coming off the spinning spool faster than the lead can pull it away. So it tangles on itself and eventually that gets wrapped around the spool and the line. The magnets or brake blocks slow the spool so that line between the spool and the lead is under a very slight tension. That way, it goes out tidily. I think tbh using a multiplier or a spinning reel is just a choice of what you prefer to use. Personally I love to play a fish with a multiplier reel. For me it's also quite nostalgic of times I've fished a decade ago or more.
