I just wanted to say thank you for this super easy tip. For 20 some years, I literally did not know the right way to do this so I flat out avoided buying chicken tenderloins. Got some on sale yesterday and used your trick... worked like a charm.

What's bad about it? Is it bad for health?

People are concerned about her using a wood cutting board with raw chicken. Here’s something I’ve done for years: Whenever I buy chicken (or any meat), I put it in a vegetable sack while at the store (most stores have thin ones a thicker ones, the thicker ones are best but both will work). When I am ready to prepare the chicken, I take the plastic vegetable bag, turn it inside out, and put my cutting board in it. Now you have a barrier between your chicken and the board. I realize this does little good if you’re cutting the chicken, but even then, if you’re careful enough, you won’t cut the bag. When finished, I carefully pull the cutting board back out, turn the bag inside out again and tie it in a knot and throw it away. I still wash my cutting board afterwards but it’s a lot easier without raw chicken bits on it.

Or use a plastic cutting board that can be put in the dishwasher and sanitized.
@grayboo2123 жыл бұрын
@@bjohnson1149 Assuming you have a dishwasher. I have two, they're located at the ends of my wrists. Putting a plastic cutting board covered in raw chicken juice in a dishwasher just spreads it around the dishwasher until it's rinsed/washed off. My way reduces the mess so this isn't as much a factor.
@Moolasavingmom3 жыл бұрын
It's actually a myth that wood cutting boards are not safe to use (I suspect the plastic cutting board companies started that rumor :) the issue is cross contamination between raw meat and food being eaten raw. Cleaning any type of cutting board is key- hand wash with hot soap and water and sanitize with diluted bleach water.
@grayboo2123 жыл бұрын
@@Moolasavingmom Yep, I merely stated how I make it easier to keep things neat and tidy for very little extra work. You still have to put that big ole wood cutting board in the sink to wash it, which can more than likely shoot some chicken juice (so to speak) here, there, and everywhere. By covering the said board, it cuts down on that possibility exponentially. Of course, you could always put it in the dishwasher just like your plastic one, but it will degrade its quality with each and every wash. You really shouldn't do that, at least not with a good wooden cutting board.

Wow! This was so helpful. I really appreciate it! I ave always done it the hard way. Just a couple of things I would say about my experience - I noticed that, once I had a good grip on the tendon, it worked best to pull straight up in the air (as opposed to pulling horizontally away from the chicken). Also, I occasionally had to use the knife to get a sufficient piece of tendon to grab and, once the paper towel gets a little slimy (I was trimming quite a few tenderloins), get a new one for the best grip.
@psyopswitch4 ай бұрын
thanks for sharing, I was curious though, does it always split most of the tender, or is that bc mine were frozen?
@ACMaverick Жыл бұрын
In my experience this is harder than it looks. The tendons are not usually sticking out the way you see in this video and other videos. How do you get the tendon to stick out in the beginning, with a knife? Sorry if it's a silly question, but I have tried this twice and not too much luck.

Well . . . that works when it works. I'm guessing nobody else used this technique on Costco tenderloins. Most of them aren't nearly as neat as yours. The ends aren't nearly as visible, and often not right in the center. I mangled quite of a few of them. It also seems to take one paper towel/napkin per tenderloin. I've tried other methods, and I think I'll go back and see what they were. This is really cool when it works, but it wasn't nearly that easy on about 3/4 of mine.

I just cut away the white part with a knife or scissors, just at the top. I hate to remove all of that chicken the way you do. It didn't bother us to eat the super-fine tendon further down the tender.
