Thank you! I inherited my parents grandfather clock which was an anniversary gift to each other in the 60's. It has been siting in my living room unwound for almost 8 years. I think you have given me the nerve to start it. Now I need to know how to synchronize the chimes with the time!
@NewlyAwakened3 жыл бұрын
Did it work and what did you have to do?
@johnwarren71553 күн бұрын
@@cathleenhamby8246 first you make sure it level both ways frunt to back and side to side you turn hands backwards get to the right time counterclockwise if you turn clockwise to get to the right time, you have to stop every 15 minutes and wait for the music to stop,let the clock run for two or three hours it will synchronize itself if it does not then move the hour hand to the time of the chime. The hour hand is made to slip , The minute hand is not. The owners manual is supposed to be in the bottom of the clock that explains to you how the procedure works.

I just had to rechain a Howard Miller grandfather clock because two of the weights were raise so high that they wedged against the motor mount blocks and locked up the gears. You should never raise the weights any higher than the the frame of the weight/pendulum door, and always support the weights with one hand under them when lifting to avoid excess wear on on the weight sprockets.

I have a Howard Miller. Why does the manual say to set time going counter clock wise. But yet I see almost everyone turning the minute hand clock wise to set the time? I'm confused on this. Please advise. Thank you

Unfortunate that you titled the video "How to easily wind & SET Your vintage Grandfather Clock", but you completely failed to demonstrate how to SET the clock time since YOUR clock just happened to be preset on the correct time. Would have appreciated the latter aspect of your video's title being included in the teaching.

Well be an asshole AND a buffoon, why don't ya? Jeez, Mr. Snark- im sure the guy figured it was basically a common sense kinda thing. I just got my first clock today and I know absolutely nothing about them and mine isn't in the best shape I don't think, either, but I'm figuring it out on my own one Google and KZbin search at a time and I'm not throwing shade at anybody for posting some info that's totally free and cost me nothing. But anyway... In case you are still unaware I'll go on and divulge the highly classified secret to setting your time. However, nobody told me this in video or otherwise so I guess I could be wrong. Could be right too since it's working over here just fine, in which case I'm either blessedly born with a God given gift of grandfather clock knowledge (please sir, contain yourself. Envy is not a good look on anyone) OR it's just common sense. I'll let you decide. Ahem... *Point your finger straight out at your clock face- generally the index of the dominant hand, however, if you're wild like me: definitely use the middle finger. *Visually locate and commit to mind the hour hand. *With the aforementioned finger gently rotate the hand in the desired position going CLOCKWISE ONLY FOR GODS SAKE! Not counter clockwise! We ain't trying to time travel back to when Father Time invented the damn thing! *Same process with the minute hand and POW! Clock blows up in your actual face because why in God's name would you do what a random chick on KZbin that knows nothing about your precious poopsie clock tells you to do?! 😮😂 Good luck and godspeed sir. Good day. Or night. Or evening? Eh, doesn't matter. It's not like you even know what time it is anymore , right? LMAO

Yes! That's why I came here and he didn't show that part. You are also not supposed to put all the stress on the chain when pulling the weight up. You are supposed to hold the weight and help it move up.

@@jefferyking9438 I personally think it's our sleep cycle. That is where memories a stored permanently. Something is affecting us while we sleep. Star Trek says yes... 😁 either Interdimensional Aliens, Succubi and Incubi, CERN, Dejan Vu from the Matrix... when a program is changed. A minor mystery. I have never in my life seen IIII. I remember when Berenstain Bears became Bernstein. I remember Interview With A Vampire... the movie changed it up from An Interview With the Vampire. No... I am your Father, not Luke... You really shouldn't touch any brass parts without wearing cotton gloves. The oil from your skin will tarnish the brass.
