How to: Easy White on White Packshot with the LED F160 for Ecommerce

White backgrounds are quite usual in ecommerce and product photography. Nevertheless, when your product is also white it becomes a bit of a challenge. The trick here is to adjust the shadows of your product, so its edges don’t get lost in white. However, with the right light- and studio setup you can achieve beautiful results.
In this video, Karl Taylor and Urs Recher show you how to separate a white product from a white background without the need of editing the image in postproduction.
Urs and Karl use the broncolor LED F160 for this photoshoot. Using a continuous light gives you the advantage of visualizing your final image before you shoot it with your camera. In other words: What you see with your eyes, is what you get in the final image.
The second big advantage of using a continuous light such as the LED F160, is that it gives you the ability to shoot video on the same set as you did for your photography.

Hi Karl I enjoyed this video shhowing your approaches and thought processes - its exactly the challenge Ive been working on with white trainers on white a background and losing the edges, and 3 questions are raise in my mind n your setup as first I wondered about the flag, is this reflecting in the product or blocking light to cause the dark edge or is it both and the slim black strip plus large softbox is what prevents it from casting a noticeble shadow on the floor or product? Also Im thinking that for the product itself the goal is not to get it to a white value of 255 255 255 as thats for background and floor alone - but how would you decide or measure to settle on just the right shade of white for a white product on white so it doesnt look too grey? Lastly is side lighting and fill better than say frontal lighting? Many thanks!

Packshot and product photography are normally the same. Often, packshot photos are on white background where product images are within a special arrangement or background. However in e-commerce business it is a very important aspect of product presentation.
