I spent a month in Paris in a flat owned by an art dealer who only used it when she was in town for selling or collecting. It was pre-Airbnb. So, just a sublet. But it was the great recession, and the dollar was worth nothing. So, we went to maybe 3 bistro/ethnic level restaurants. Otherwise, it was just cooking in. And self-catered picnics. My big purchase was a three piece stackable vintage pot set--pan, lid, pot--that I used to make so many meals. I still cherish that time.

That sounds like a dream month and I'm glad you have those happy memories (and cool vintage set of pans!). We made other videos in Paris if you'd like to see more - hope they bring more good memories back of that time: bit.ly/parisvideosplaylist :)

My all time favorite thing to do ( before I went vegetarian) was buying a fresh baguette, go to a supermarket to get some pâté de foie, go visit Parc Monceau, sitting down and preparing the baguette (yes: always have a cutting knife on hand LOL) only to enjoy eating and watching the scenery of that beautiful park! Thank you so much for this wonderful video!!

Definitely! Paris is such a great picnic city. We made other videos about actual restaurants etc too (including trying the iconic dessert at Angelina!) if you're interested - they're here: bit.ly/parisvideosplaylist :) We also made a video about the Canal St. Martin area where you can order a pizza, wait by the canal, and someone delivers it to you on a bicycle. VERY charming.

It's totally nice to cook for yourself when traveling for a long time. Love David Sedaris too! Even on short trips, I love to check out local grocery stores. Crepes are so good! Luxembourg garden is a great place to watch the locals. Yes, pain au chocolat I want one. I have been to canal St-Martin, it is really cool too.

Lovely video. Totally agree with mixing eating out with cooking in while traveling. We walked right by your favorite Crêperie yesterday evening. We had our dinner just a few doors down from it, right on the next corner. That was our compromise location when I couldn’t get my colleague motivated for Deux Moulins. Greetings from Strasbourg, a lovely city I’ve never been to before and so close to Germany.
@EileenAldis5 жыл бұрын
That's so cool you were right there! The funny thing was that the man making the crepes was stepping in for the owner who had surgery. It was this guy's first time ever making crepes!! He hit it out of the park. But being a full-time pastry chef didn't hurt him, I'd say ;) Enjoy Strasbourg! Haven't been there but it looks extremely picturesque.

One of my best picnics was buying a bottle of expensive scotch and starting at the Isle St. Louis and wandering into le Marais where I was staying and ending up in some underground club I would not have otherwise dared to go. The Parisienes tolerated me because I was polite and the Scotch very expensive. Haha

It's really funny to me that crêpes are also very popular in Poland, very popular. Maybe not as a street food but there w lot of crêpes restaurants and it's a kind off a thing your grandma would make when you come. I think that the more polish flavour would be apples and panther would soft white cheese with raisins and creme fresh. And as a kid my grandma would put a bit of butter and sugar on a hot one for me - yummy. Btw. You have a nice voice ;)
