How to eat crab legs without using your muscles. Also why International buffets seem to be annoyed by Asian diners.

I think you have it in reverse. I think hotels will like people eating all the meat. What i think you will find they hate, is people who take lots of food, be it crab legs or what ever, and not eating it all and wasting it
@stevelogan54756 жыл бұрын
peter neagle for sure, i try to get all the crab meat out that i can, and i eat the knuckle meat to, its snow crab, but i see people throwing away half the crab meat into the shell bucket because its all you can eat, and they don't want to spend the time to crack/peel the shells and cartilage to eat all the meat properly, that is what causes buffets to raise prices
@tron-81406 жыл бұрын
I was going to say... I dont understand why they would hate you for eating their food lol. You're paying for the legs, eat the legs how you want lol.
@rikki8636 жыл бұрын
you are slow ? more work equals less crab taken from buffet!
@peternt20086 жыл бұрын
Tron That is correct, they dont hate you eating their food, and they work on averages, if someone can eat lots there ate lots who dont eat much. What we hate in the hospitality industry is waste. If someone can eat 5 pounds of crab legs good on them. If someone takes 5 pounds of crab legs and only eats 2 pounds and leaves 3 pounds to be thrown out, then we hate that. Someone who commented a few weeks ago, said a buffet near them has a wastage financial penalty, if you take lots of food and dont eat it, they charge you extra. The video below is what hospitality managers and chefs hate. Watch until the end of the video, it only goes for 51 seconds. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rX65m6ahd6dnrZI

What a click baity title. I worked at a hotel when I was a student. The thing that annoys us (we really don't care though) is when people throw away good meat and go for another leg - if you can get all the meat out like that it's actually pretty impressive

@QuangNguyen-ep6mx6 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Ding I mean I can understand your point of view to a certain degree: words not being said out loud like they are spelled "correctly". But what is spelling a word "correctly"? Man, it's the same for the english and french to "your" language. They don't consider your way of writing correctly as well. Just gotta have an open mind and stop calling other people stupid for their language. If there is anyone stupid, then it's probably the one who is unable to see he is being rude for no real reason.
@malaysianmalaysia63746 жыл бұрын
Quang Nguyen Stupid is when a language has inconsistent rules. Yes my language English and Chinese is stupid. English also the alphabets dont mean anything when being pronounced differently. Chinese every character is different. Malay language is great SAME SPELLING SAME PRONUNCIATION. IS A PROPER LANGUAGE. Wake up a language is meant for communication not being complicated.

If you don't have the tool for cutting into the soft part of the leg, you can also use a standard fork. Just slide one point into the leg while the other 2-3 points are on the outside and slowly move up as you're pull away from the crab leg. You should be slowly cutting it open. You might have to spread it open with your hand after you're done cutting.
@mrkattm6 жыл бұрын
You have it backwards, by extracting the maximum amount of meat from each leg you will actually be taking fewer legs off of the buffet line to get the same amount of crab meat. You would think they might even give free lessons. As for me, what you are suggesting is too much work, I simply snap the leg in the middle of the thickest section and if I don't get any meet I throw it to the side and get more, I would guess that I waste about 30% to 40% of salvageable meat. Why does it matter the cost is the same.
@Levi_Skardsen6 жыл бұрын
It seems to me that they also factor in people struggling to get the legs open, which takes more time, makes more mess, and makes them less inclined to order more. If you knew how to open them like this guy does, you'd have no problem ordering more, which is the point he's trying to make.
@purplebutterflies68246 жыл бұрын

Those pliers for for cracking lobsters, not crabs. Crab shells are thin and flexible, unlike lobsters. And the red picking fork is also for lobsters and sometimes for hard to reach crab pieces. For king crab legs, and especially at a buffet, HELL, you don't even need to use a dangerous steak knife and risk poking or cutting yourself. If you snap the crab leg properly (just near the joint, the meat will come out in one piece too). But the vast majority of all you can eat buffets offering king crab legs will do most of the work for you and render the need for any special tools needless, because of the high food cost, these places would slice each leg down the middle, then all you need to do is to pluck the meat out with your fingers or a regular fork, or chopsticks.

Also when I go to an all you can eat buffet that has crab legs I don't waste much space for salads or veggies, its straight to the crab. I will eat until I cant possibly eat anymore. We always just bent the joints back partway beyond their natural limit until we felt them pop, then rocked side to side to "snap" them free. You can then pull the joint apart and the meat comes out whole, just like this, but without the need for a knife. This way is cool, though.
