I’ve seen several videos of people eating crawfish and they were lucky to get maybe 2-21/2 inches of meat. I thought, such a waste of life for a small morsel.then I saw your video and I admire your dedication to getting the most out of it. That’s the way it should be. My great grandmother was a rancher and she learned to use every single bit of the chicken, cow, pig, etc. especially during the Great Depression. Thank you for your video! 😊😊😊

When I was in Vegas there were crawfish at one of the buffets we ate at. Being from Pennsylvania I've never been anywhere that serves them, so I grabbed a few of em because I heard they were a delicacy in the south. I had no idea how to eat them 😂

I married into a family of Cajuns, and they do one thing differently: instead of peeling the tail by hand, they use a slick movement that accomplishes the same, but in one move: put the meat end in your mouth, holding it gently with your lips & teeth, then push the tail inward, toward your mouth. This telescopically collapses the shell segments together (which separates them from the meat) and you can just slide the shell off, leaving the meat in your mouth. SUPER efficient, especially since they too believe in quantity 😄

I've had crawfish before but used Doordash today to order some for the first time in years. I can't peel the tails all that fast, but mainly wanted to know if there was meat in the body that could be eaten. It seems not, it's just good for the juice. As I'm eating a "boil bag" full of crawfish, shrimp, corn and red potatoes, there's plenty of the cajun juice so I'll probably pass on drinking the body, lol! But thank you for this video for confirming I wasn't missing anything (and as for the claws, seems like a lot of work for even less meat, so I'm not massively worried about those. I'll nibble them, but I wanted to ensure I was eating the bulk of what's edible on the crawfish). Also, don't usually think of crawfish when I think of New York, so kudos to this guy! First had them when my family lived in Louisiana and now I live in Alabama (I do not say that with pride, just a matter of fact 😅).

So I have a question. I just left my local Asian buffet and wanted to try some of these for the first time. I push, twisted and pulled out the tail but noticed it was dark and blackish. Is that normal? I thought it had gone bad so I didn’t try it. I was under the impression it is only supposed to be white. If it’s okay I’ll just try it next time.

So my ignorant west coast self went to a new fish place and ordered Crawfish takeout thinking I was going to get breaded chunks of fish....... yeah.......... Blindly picked one up out of the bag and snatched my hand back so fast. I usually don't eat things while they're looking at me but I paid $14 for my bag of corpses and there was no way to not waste it so I scoured KZbin looking for an instruction video so I wouldn't have to rip at it like a science experiment in a high school biology class. I talked to myself as I ate reminding myself that they're dead and I'm eating dead food and I kept my eyes on what my fingers were doing and not that I was consuming sea bugs. I got through a whole bag of about 20. I wasn't counting but it was delicious. I hope my ancestors are proud of me for completing this rite of passage.

Tastes extremely similar to crab meat or lobster/also texture. They don't have a shrimp texture at all. Shrimp are more stringy.

No. It's some kind of pancreatic organ that mixes with all the juice it's cooked in, in the crawfish. The poop vain is in the tail and can be pulled out, which they don't do here.
