How To Eat Rice With Chopstick The Right Way

Time and Time again I go to a Chinese restaurant and see people eating rice from a bowl like they're eating noodle, and I cringe looking at them struggle.
To help all you folk out there that's doing it wrong, let me introduce you to the B+M+S formula which stands for Bowl to Mouth and Scoop.
This is just for some fun so don't take it too seriously, I'm not gonna judge how to eat your rice :)

if that's the case, it's best to use fork and spoon/ knife instead. it's pointless to use chopstick to pick up rice from the plate (trust us we have seen people doing that! )

Yummy Jubbly I'll just have to aske them to serve the rice in a bowl. But do asians add soy sauce to their rice? Because rice by itself tastes pretty blank. Because they don't season it.

That would depends on the dish! our tips: try to order 1 or 2 dishes that come with gravy/ sauce (imagine meat juice mix with dark soy & oyster sauce) and add that on your rice! in that case using spoon is more satisfying :)

I prefer this method. Keeps the rice warm and the steam from the rice being inhaled while scooping the rice into the mouth enhances the taste (in the case of eating fried rice).

If you ever had rice in real asian markets, they use just a tiny bit less water to get that sticky consistancy, and then use chopsticks to actually pick it up. The bowl to mouth is just on of the many ways they eat rice

To me it is common sense , I do it with cereal as well in a bowl when finishing and soups and even rice it’s just to me easier but do respect where ever you travel follow the locals and you can’t go wrong. 👍

This reminds me of something dumb I did as a kid We were at a Chinese restaurant and I got steamed rice ( because I like to put sugar in it as a desert) and my mom also got rice but she didn't order rice. With the extra rice I tried spooning it with chopsticks cuz I didn't have a spoon and I was being too antisocial to ask for one, and one of my relatives ( every year we go to some sort of restaurant for something similar to a family reunion) told me to eat it faster so, me being a dumb little kid I decided I was going to take handfuls of steamed rice and shove them in my face. The rice being slightly sticky got stuck all over my hands and I went home with rice on my hands

Where I come from (Shandong Province) we don't eat rice but steamed bread, and when I do eat rice (maybe once a month), I always use a spoon rather than Kuaizi. It's just so much easier for me, and I like to eat a whole mouthful of food. Neither do we have that small rice bowl, so holding a large bowl filled with rice when eating can be quite annoying

Before all these tutorials, I learnt how to do it this way just by how it's logically the best way to do it. I find that this is the best way to eat the normal rice but for the Japanese rice, you can pick it up in a clump because their rice is more sticky so it's easier to handle.

i would say bringing the bowl to your mouth is common, for example if your food was covered in sauce that dripped or the food was heavy or difficult to pick up, its common sense rather than struggling
