For anyone who can't find "Camera Calibration" it's because they moved it and renamed it to just calibration. If you go to the very top by the white balance sliders, there should be a profile selector there. Click that, then browse, then profiles and it should be there.

Which IR filter do / did you use ? So just to be clear .... when i save the "profile" for one specific image from one specific camera (Nikon D300) I'll only need to do that ONCE ?? And if so ... Whenever i upload new photos to lightroom from that same camera, I will be able to re-apply that profile each time, in post ? If I use ANOTHER camera (Nikon D810) I will need to re-start the process from scratch for THAT camera's pictures ? Thanks

Hiya, loving your video, you explain the process a lot better than other videos on youtube. I'm having the same problem as Niru Karia, and have read your responses to their comments, I've found profile browser but don't really know where to go from there... the only options I've got are: favourites, Adobe Raw, Camera matching, legacy, artistic, B&W, modern or vintage. I've clicked on each one but it just brings up different version of the photo I'm trying to edit but none of them are the white balanced one I saved from the DNG editor. Any knowledge on what I do next?
@BrandonLosada
@BrandonLosada 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Leonie! Thank you! I haven't yet updated my Lightroom to the most recent version with the new "profile browser" menu yet, but I have done some reading on it. At the top of the "profile browser" there should be those "3 dots (see more) icon" -- If you click on that there should be an option to "import profiles" (DNG profile you made)... or there's an option to choose whether or not all of the profiles are showing in the menu already. I hope this helps, and please, I would love to know if this works for you! Also, if that doesn't seem to work, here are some troubleshooting questions: Did you save the DNG profile in the correct folder? Did you restart your Lightroom? Are you editing a "RAW" photo? Are you editing a RAW photo that was taken on the same camera that you made the DNG profile for? Here's an Adobe blog post all about this new profile browser, different from the link that I sent Niru in the other thread you read: blogs.adobe.com/jkost/2018/04/lightroom-cc.html

You can white balance infrared without using the DNG Profile Editor. It’s true that you cannot achieve white balance in Lightroom - not in one edit session anyway. It requires two edit sessions. First use the WB eye dropper and this will get you halfway. But now you’ll see the Temperature is all the way to the left and you can’t adjust any further. But now export the file to the desktop. Now, import it again and use the eye dropper again which will achieve a full white balance.

Are your edits not destructive by going back and forth between LR and PS using the exact same tools in each program?
@BrandonLosada
@BrandonLosada 6 жыл бұрын
Technically in this example it is destructive... But, when you are in Lightroom and you want to transfer it to Photoshop, you would normally right-click and press "Edit in Adobe Photoshop", you will instead click "Open as Smart Object in Photoshop". -- This will open the image in Photoshop and non-destructively transfer all of your RAW, lens, Lightroom adjustments and white balance information into the project. Hope this helped, thanks for watching!

So you saved your new DNG camera profile into the correct folder, but you can’t find the camera calibration tab in LR? Try updating your LR to the most recent version - if it’s already updated, then check on the top of your LR and check if they may have changed it to something called “profile browser”

Is your camera ir converted or are you just using the ir filter on a regular stock camera? I own a non converted camera and I am interested in achieving darker sky tones. There are a lot of controversial advice on how great can a filter perform on a non converted camera. Any advice on what kind of filter should i buy will be definitely appreciated! Leo
@BrandonLosada
@BrandonLosada 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Leo, I have a regular camera and I used an IR filter for these photos. To get darker sky tones, when you're out shooting, just experiment at many different exposures/settings + Photoshop will help a great deal. The only filter that I have experience using is in the description under this video. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, I'll be happy to help. Thanks for watching!

All I got from some endless and painful google searches is that the 720nm gets the job done on most of non-converted cameras, giving the images a fairly desaturated look. In order to get more color information to the sensor (which is what I want to get), some people suggest getting a 520nm ir filter instead and that is pretty much explicit, but i saw about a lot of people complaining about a thing: getting too much of natural light through the filter of a non-converted camera may often minimize the"IR effect" leaving you with a simple photo with a red overlay on it. Can you tell how the filter u use performs at maximum and minimum nm blocking position? I prefer to buy a fixed ir filter to avoid the negative effects often introduced by cheap and multilayer adjustable filters as distortion, color cast and aberration. Don't know/confused about what nm value filter to buy. Let's assume I can't afford spending money to test filters, but I definitely want an average good one to try and let's say i have to choose between a 720 and a 520 nm fixed one. Bought a Sony a7III and I have no kidneys left to sell. Glad to be able to find people exploring photography to inspire, motivate and help other photographers grow. Thanks for the video and for the reply as well, Leo
@BrandonLosada
@BrandonLosada 6 жыл бұрын
Леонардо Друсковиц The filter I use works well at both nm blocking positions, I personally like to use it closer to the 520nm position because I do like more of a colorful final image. With the filters that I'm using I've had no negative effects so far. My advice would be just to buy something on the cheaper side of things -- just to test it out so you can get a "hands-on" feel for it, because there's only so much you can learn through these videos. I was in the same boat as you before I bought a filter, so I just bought one of the cheaper filters (that I could adjust the nm's with) and I just played around with it. Hope this helped in some way lol, and thanks for checking the video out!

October 08 2018 Sorry to bother you. Could you please help me with this frustrating situation going on for months? I do exact same processing as yours after shooting with my Nikon D750/77mm Infra-Red Filter on Nikon 24-70mm or with Panasonic Lumix G9/Leica 12-60mm mostly @f/5.6 instead of f/8 or smaller aperture to avoid the annoying center blob from appearing. I open the image in Lightroom under the Custom DNG profile made already which tends not to show up in Lightroom after a couple weeks even though it exits in this folder: C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles I made two DNG profiles for Lumix and Nikon just in case but whenever I save the Nikon Profile, Lumix becomes inactive and vice-versa. Then I go under the Nikon or Lumix Camera calibration/Profile but when I place the WB eye-dropper to cool the image, I cannot get any blue or even yellow sky. My goal is to have only the green foliage turn into white. But I rather get the whole image turn into even desaturated orange and in many cases into a Black & White image. After I export the image to Photoshop to switch the Red and Blue channels, I get a desaturated even blue color in all areas of my image. Foliage, Sky, Dirt etc. At this point, there is no reason for me to adjust other values e.g. Contrast, Saturation, Haze etc., of the image by importing it back to Lightroom. What am I doing wrong? Thanks so much for your time.

Did you download the DNG profile editor software (link in description) and did you save the camera profile (from the DNG profile editor) into the correct folder so that it would show up in LR? From the DNG Profile Editor, the export location of the camera profile was in: "Users>YourName>AppData>Roaming>Adobe>CameraRaw>CameraProfiles" If you can't find these folders in your file explorer and you are using windows, go to the view tab on the top of your file explorer window and check the box that says "Hidden Items" -- new folders should appear such as "App Data" I hope this helped, let me know if this worked!
