As always a great tutorial! I love Max's photography anyway and to now know how he gets this look is invaluable to me. I have a couple of forest pics that I'll try that out with straight away. I'm new to photography (I do everything on my smartphone) and channels like yours are an immense help for us newbies (and I bet for old hands alike). Thanks for the unique and inspiring tutorials :) When you talk about the shadows and whites in your image, and their associated adjustments, i have trouble picking them out in the reference photo. What are you typically looking for?

Its just practice, Blacks are the very darkest areas and whites the very brightest. Shadows and highlights are everything between

Would you say image quality would be better preserved doing these adjustment in photoshop using layers rather than pulling and pushing the image that much in lightroom? Thanks, Mike.

You achieve the look of the image quite well, however i would not say its the Max Muench look. Try to apply the preset on another image which contains slightly different colors or even skin tones or sky and it turns to garbage. Since i wanted to prove it i just copied your settings one by one and the only images you can use this preset is photos with green trees and blown out skies, nothing else.

I know, I think that's pretty obvious to everyone. he would have a lot more than one preset himself​

One preset isn't going to work on every image as SO much changes between pictures, from camera settings and exposures to colours and scenery. You'll have to change the settings specific to each photo that has different settings or subjects.
