How To Edit Your Voice in Audacity | Editing Tutorial + Free Presets 2020

🚨👋🏼 PSA: I stopped making Audacity videos as I've switched to Cakewalk (also free) because I needed more features. The plugins look cool but I'm not so sure how necessary they are. Audacity has its own built in noise gate and with the Filter Curves EQ you can already tweak any setting and between any range you want. With regards to the sibilants, you can always de-amplify them by around -2.0 to -2.2/-2.3 db's then re-apply that same correction 1-2x more for a total of around -6ish db's. That will shrink them down to a more reasonable range. Last, you should always keep a version of the original unedited version so after you've made all your edits you can finish off with a side-by-side comparison so that the viewers can hear the differences for themselves.

Thanks! You really wouldn’t want to use a limiter with a compressor, as a compressor is essentially a limiter with a threshold. Plus the audio was tightly compressed to begin with.

@@jasonrtech but a limiter affects your entire range where as a compressor touches the loudest parts so a limiter would attack anything your compressor doesn’t touch. U can also use nova a a pure limiter or expander

Thank you for the video! I've used other settings for noise reduction for some of my first covers. Might try yours. It looks like a tedious & complex process for a beginner though. Also say if to use some asmr elements I suppose it is a different story? My main challenge was strong room tone noise hissing when recording with tonor tc20 (with audacity and scarlett solo)

Yep! You’re gonna need to de-breath, EQ, and compress music vocals very similarly. I will say you’ll wanna tweak it a bit since music has a different tone than voiceovers (more crisp, less bass).

Just putting the plugins in the folder won’t make them appear in Audacity. Make sure to go to “Add/Remove Effects,” find the new plugins, and enable them from there.

Yeah, you have to install them (either by moving them to the Audacity plugins folder or running their installer). Then you have to enable them from within Audacity. I did a video on how to install plugins in Audacity in the past 👍🏼
