Best combination for those who want natural vocals and not robotic ones : Wavetunes realtime with soft autotune you barely hear and then polish it with a manual autotune like Waves tune or Melodyne, if you're not accurate with your voice take the time with your plugins that's the only way. Also be sure to record in proper conditions, you need a good room around NC25 or less if you can, otherwise use a dynamic mic with a good preamp because you wouldn't want to pitch the noise that would sound really really bad. Other thing don't be close-mic, because of the proximity effect the sound of your voice will be really bassy and you don't want that when you tune a voice, it's too easy to recognise, be at least half your arm away from the mic and use a pop filter half way (as far as possible from the mic, stop sticking it!!!) because having pops pitched is also not natural as we all have it in the same frequencies, having a clean recording will really help doing the trick trust me. Waves plugins are a gold mine for all Sound Engineers out there, you just gotta know how they work.

I love how Autotune just turns a shitty vocal recording into a stupidly robotic sounding vocal recording, while the other plugin creates something completely new that's only based on, but doesn't contain anything of the original voice, yet Autotune is the plug in that's considered 'cheating' by a lot of singers and fans. 😂

You need to use Melodine. It's industry standard and u can MOVE the pitch of a word to the correct note. It also automatically corrects the note if it's FLAT or SHARP so the note is in tune. U can adjust the smoothness of that transition so it doesn't sound like a Microsoft robot. You literally can just SAY the words of the song, then drag that word to the correct note pitch that u want. If u can't reach a high note, no problem just sing the note as high as u can comfortably and in tune, then go back, use the slider and put it to the correct note. Simple as that 😆 it's like taking a middle C and going one octive higher and that's it. No real effort needed now days. Plus can do effects if u want as well. Reverb etc.

Autotune can also do all of the things you menntion: it has a manual edit mode to MOVE the pitch of a word to the correct note, it can automatically correct sharp/flat based on a set key, and you can set the transition time so it doesn't sound like a robot.

It reminded me though, that there is an instrument for generating vocals called Vocaloid from Yamaha, not the cheapest, but very impressive, for those who don't want to even try to sing and yet still produce songs. you just need to know what key your instrumental is in, then autotune will make sure only the notes in that key is sung. its confusing in the beginning but if you just study a bit everyday youll quickly get the hang of it
@wesprog98092 жыл бұрын
@@NoahDitlefsen Thank you for your answer: I really appreciate it. What confuses me most is what I am supposed to do after I figured out the keynote. What is the keynote in an EDM track? Is it the first note of the lead melody? What if you have chords with multiple notes being played? Are you supposed to use the same keynote on the bassline and other elements? I checked a few of my older projects and autokey shows most of the time that it is in A major and when I use a sample where the keynote is mentioned in the filename it shows something different even though it is unedited and the only element of a new project file.
@NoahDitlefsen2 жыл бұрын
@@wesprog9809 when you have chords and u want a bass to follow those chords, use the root note of the chord (in an A chord that would be A, C in a C chord etc). The key of a song is the note or chord the music is centered around, the tonic. if you were playing in the key of C, the C major chord would be the tonic, or 1, E would be the 3 and G would be the 5 in the key.

But, believe me, you can make a good natural Human vocals using Melodyne, with a little experience with this tool or other alternative. You can tune your singing, make natural transitions and bends between each note, enhance or add vibrato and so on. An then add compression, delay, reverbs... It really depends if you're looking for a natural, in tune vocals, or a Cher Style, robotic vocals.
