I bought the graphite and paint you suggested, what is the ratio of paint to graphite for the conductive paint?
@MandyReyesDesigns3 жыл бұрын
I don't have a ratio, what I do is definitely not scientific. I use a small Dixie cup, then pour in some paint. I mix in as much Graphite paint as I can. You'll know it's too much if it's clumpy. Some say to add water, but it will get moldy over time if you don't use it quickly. The more Graphite the better, the trick is just to make sure it still has a paint like consistency. I mix it a lot to break up the small chunks. When I paint an item, that is when I will add a drop or two of water to thin it out a bit if necessary. I have seen a KZbin video when I first began and followed her instructions. Good luck!

@MandyReyesDesigns3 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I wonder if it could be from the paint. If there were tiny clumps of graphite they might draw extra current creating the bump. You could make another batch and stir it with a dremel or hand mix A LOT and test that. Sometimes if the solution has a lot of copper sludge at the bottom it could be that. @@Ishfwilf is it a ring? If so I would recommend painting around the stone a little bit higher so that the copper kind of builds up on the sides and grows over in order to kind of encapsulate the stone. Also, definitely let it sit more than 3 hours. You can message me a photo if you like on my ig and I can try to help ya more tomorrow.

@@MandyReyesDesigns it is a ring! That makes total sense, I cant believe I didnt think about that! I will give it another go and will let it sit for longer. I appreciate your help!

Can you use polymer clay instead of h epoxy ? Epoxy is quite expensive and I have heard of others uisng the polymer clay
@MandyReyesDesigns3 жыл бұрын
Polymer clay is great for making designs to plate over, however it would be a poor decision to use it as a replacement for the epoxy. It definitely is not strong enough and it would compromise the integrity of the ring.

Hey! Awesome video! Do you think I can use rocks or agates found at the beach? thank you. Also, do you just super glue the stone on top of the wire ring or in between it was hard for me to see that part :) THANK YOU
@MandyReyesDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Yes you definitely can! And it depends on how you want it to look. The majority of the time I glue the stone in between the wires.

Vintage Sugar Skull how long do you have to wait for the epoxy to dry before you put in the solution? I tried out my first ring it’s super dope but you can see the epoxy and conductive paint in some spots. I think I contaminated it because I didn’t wear gloves through the whole process. Thank you!!!
@MandyReyesDesigns4 жыл бұрын
@@daysealady It would be ideal to let it set about 24 hours and make sure you paint it all over with the conductive paint. It's odd that you can see the epoxy. How long did you leave it in the solution?

That's odd, I'm not sure why. Is your Facebook account established? I haven't been on in a while but I don't see why they would not approve it. Is there a way to message the moderator?
@MandyReyesDesigns4 жыл бұрын
I just read in the description it says you won't be approved unless you answer ALL the questions, so maybe that could be it 🤔

Do you think I can get away with using polymer clay instead of apoxy?
@MandyReyesDesigns3 жыл бұрын
As long as it's sturdy enough before plating then you can.

@@MandyReyesDesigns so ideally, bake it first! Okay thanks so much! 🥰 this tutorial has helped so much and I’m so excited to start my first piece.

I tried this, and the copper flakes off. Any ideas to fix this?
@MandyReyesDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Maybe it was your conductive paint? Did you make it? If so maybe not enough graphite and you have to leave the piece in for quite a while, 8 to 20 hrs sometimes

Hey, great video! Found you from reddit! Strange question, would teeth work as the "gem" for this? Or is the material too soft and would it errode?
@MandyReyesDesigns5 жыл бұрын
It would definitely work! You would need to seal it properly first with a lacquer before painting it with the conductive paint.

Would it work with resin cabochons?
@MandyReyesDesigns5 жыл бұрын
@@nayomihathu4377 yes I've done it with resin no issues. I've read it can get cloudy but I think as long as it is fully cured it should be fine.
