I have 2 firearms I want to plate and I was curious about how well playing holds up on aluminum ? If you can get that I pod to keep it's coating them I would think it is durable? Thanks for the vid and God bless

If done properly plated surfaces can be very strong and long lasting, but that's if done properly. there's lots of ways to mess up when electroplating but if you buy a premade kit and follow the instructions you're probably gonna have a pretty durable, reliable electroplated finish

I've read some do a palladium coating after the copper to prevent corrosion and also the gold and copper ion migrating and blending over time. What is the copper strike solution made of as I don't understand how is different? Other than the specifications changing... seems like would be neat to nickel plate a small engine carburetor to prevent corrosion... at least the bowel. Funny, now that I think about... can probably even plate the plastic float as well using a conductive paint.

i dont know what is it made of but copper strike is for metals where you may have problems with adhesion with normal copper

Ok , the "magic solution" Zincate- which enables you further to electroplate on aluminum, is ZincOxide 5-50g/l ,Caustic soda 50 -500g/l ad Ferric Clorine (pcb etcher) 2g/L. Sure some extra fancy ingredients -which are optional to keep an lower thickness, keep PH of solution etc. Keep it 15sec to 1min into it ,then from that point further you can electroplate like any other plating friendly metal.try it first as basic as it is, most of the times does the job just fine, in DIY projects no need other stuff.
