Mariam does these Pat pairings videos that I love.. mixing palettes together. Inspires me to use shades in different ways and rotate more through my collection. I also enjoy GWRM + storytimes. You're going in the right direction.. might take a minute to find your niche but it's good that you recognize the need for change. Social media can be so unhealthy and you can be the positive change that we all need.

What you're talking about is the content I've been wanting. I have a big collection and I want to use it and love it. It's hard to find people using makeup that isn't new, and the new vids are all the same. Creators showcase the obvious choices and we never get to see the full use of the palette. Bring on more videos of using the makeup you have. Also, I'd love some content on tried and true things to add to the collection to fix common problems. For me, I am still to find a warm brown eyeliner that is budge proof, for my deep set, oily, watery, aged eyes. I want videos that look at holy grails that work for specific issues. I've bought so much stuff that doesn't work for me. Looking forward to seeing your new content.

I have been really happy with the Nyx Epic Wear liners; affordable, comfortable, long wearing. I have aging/watery eye problems too. Deepest Brown is my go-to; it's more neutral/cool toned but they have a lot of shades so I'm sure a warmer brown is available.

I don't wear liquid eyeliner anymore because I'm too lazy to make it work (I have deep-set eyes too), but I recommend the NYX epic wear liner that I used for years. I sometimes watch people who either have deep-set eyes or do specific content for people who have to get recommendations and see how products look on them before even considering a purchase 😊

A majority of my contact creators that I do watch are going to minimalistic collections collections so they do a declutter video every 6 months of their whole collection. And of course, they keep their archive collections, but they do a declutter videos every 6 months. So so a lot of them aren't doing a bunch of new releases.They don't.They're a little bitcontent creators that have been on the platform 5 years or more So they don't. Feel the need to have every new release. And they're in there late 30s early 40s and so, that's the kind of content creators that I watch so I don't feel the need to buy every new release nor can I afford to buy every new release? But I do have a humongous collection. Without watching any content creators. I have a shopping problem. You are one of probably 5 that I watch consistently. And you're all about on the same page

Thank you for continuing to share your journey. While I enjoy watching the new makeup release videos, it’s nice watching creators use makeup they already own. For me watching the videos is more about “how can I create this look” not “should I buy this new thing”

You are preaching to the choir with everything you said. My collection is out of hand, and things will expire before i can use them. I just did a pretty significant eye shadow declutter. I highly recommend watching a few episodes of Hoarders prior to decluttering. Nothing has made me more decisive in my declutter decisions than watching that show haha 😅 I have all my products in a spreadsheet too. 1 tab per category. After i test items, it gets color coded for like or dislike and for if i would repurchase or not. This helps me be able to quickly look when i am tempted by new releases and see that if i tried something similar or from the same brand and marked it dont like and wouldn't repurchase than i better not be trying to buy more! Oh my gosh I'm in the same boat 100%!! Quality over quantity is real. At some point I was focused on quantity. I need to have a "blush drawer" like this influencer (or highlighter drawer, palette connection, etc). And the difference is, a lot of them aren't buying it, whereas I have to use my money. They make money on videos (I know, some more than others) so they aren't paying for the makeup to begin with AND they get paid for making the video, AND they get paid if we use their link and/or code. So for the bigger influencers it's 100% profit to end up with a huge collection. I'm not an influencer... I don't get items for free, I don't make money using or influencing others to use it.... so it's kind of stupid to want the same amounts... They can go through and declutter with ZERO effect on their wallet. They haven't lost anything. My money? Gone! And then I have so many choices that makeup isn't even fun anymore. My makeup journey has me trying to use everything to see what I actually like and what works for me and downsizing. My other thing is, feeling like I need to keep up and brands putting more and more out. When there was time between releases, it was fun. Exciting to see what came out. Exciting to see several videos on it even after it's been released. Now there's so much coming out influencers aren't even doing dedicated videos anymore! They aren't putting any effort into selling us the products... 3 palettes, 3 looks, or 4, or 5.. all crammed in one video.. and you never see the palettes again, BUT *Use my code to save money!* So they get paid for their halfa$$ed review in likes, comments, views AND we're dumb enough to just use their codes so they get paid by the brand for wearing one Eyeshadow look with their free palette! I'm over it. I don't use codes anymore unless they took the time to actually showcase the palette. If they don't, I'll find one who did. Some of smaller creators still do. Maybe it's just me, but I'm so sick of everything. I'm burnt out, I'm tired, and I'm overwhelmed. And I'm really starting to see that the influencers that I've watched for years and seem so nice and helpful, are not. They aren't here for us,they are here to make money from us. And I'm over it. And before anyone gets all hotsy in their pants.... obviously not every influencer. There are some really great ones (like Frizz lol). I'm just stating my overall personal opinion.

Everything that you said is what motivated me to only consume content from people who have a job outside of KZbin and are living from their KZbin channel (or trying to). As you perfectly said, it doesn't make sense for me to give credit to people who are there to make money rather than helping me make an informed purchase decision. And I don't blame them because that's their job. I just find it funny how the beauty space shifted from reviews where people gave their genuine opinions (maybe it wasn't genuine but at least they didn't like EVERYTHING they tried) and insight on how the product is working for their specifics needs to biased sales pitches where they can pinpoint what they like and won't get into details on how the product performs and the product axes of amelioration outside of first impressions. What's helping me (and brings me joy) recently is using what I have in some sort of way (project pan with usage goals), experimenting with color combinations from pictures that inspire me, trying to recreate looks from Kevyn Aucoin or looks from makeup artists you have a KZbin channel. Ps: I can't wait to see eyeshadow palettes declutter with products that most creators rave about recently 😂

Would love to see brand specific declutters & GRWM! This year was the year where my mind shift of makeup really showed. I bought a lot less, really thought about my purchases, did a lot of research on the things I considered buying and because of that I have no regrets because I put in the effort to research instead of impulse buying. I also went through and got rid of things as the year went on. If I used it and it didn’t do it for me I let it go. It was much easier to do this year and I’m officially off the jmpulse buy train.

I absolutely love this series! I definitely take accountability for my own overconsumption. Every year, I bought things from Sephora just to meet the Rouge status requirement. No more! There are brands that I will continue to support if the releases fit my needs and current collection. Like you, I have my holy grails and will continue to replenish, but all the other stuff is overkill.

My favorite thing is finishing a bottle of foundation or using up a mascara. It gives me an excuse to buy a replacement. I still love eyeshadow and will continue to purchase as I see fit but I’m quickly learning there is only so much blush you can buy or so much lip products you can get before you realize you can cocktail most of these colors and get a custom tone for the day. I enjoy watching hauls and your makeup news videos but from a consumer standpoint you make valid points about slowing down and being more judicious about our purchases because ultimately I want to use my makeup versus chasing the next best viral item.

I think you’re on the right track. I love watching declutters with details/reasons on the products. You’re right, you should clean up your makeup. I’ve seen you show some things in the past and they looked gross tbh 🤷‍♀️ I usually clean up any fallout or fingerprints later that evening. I am somewhat gentle with my makeup in the first place though and I like to fix any hard pan I find on a regular basis. Hope this helps

I don't know if you met Hannah Louise Poston at a Creators and Friends event, but she made several years of content talking about makeup and the desire to buy, budgeting and having a positive relationship with beauty and purchasing. Her first year of content on YT is called her "No-Buy Year." She speaks so intelligently, self-critically, and gently about her own difficulties with spending that I found was able to relate her insights to many areas of my life that are not about makeup at all.

I have a tiny collection. I binge buy lately. I know I do it to compensate for the depression I am going through since my Dad passed. So, now I have all this make up, mainly drugstore and a growing high end collection. I don't use it because I have been isolating since June, when my Dad passed. I feel good when I buy it and receive it. Then that feeling goes away. I am going to try and go on a no buy and try to do a look a day, even if I will mess it up with my daily crying. I'm struggling to keep it together, but I know I need another outlet because the money is going down the drain on products I don't use. I apologize for being a "Debbie downer", but your content resonated with me. I recently discovered you and love that you keep it real.

Considering what you're going through, you're not a downer at all. You're just sharing what you're going through, and I'm sure that your experience will resonate with some of us to a certain extent. I've also been using makeup to help me go through the hardest hardships of my life and the more I spend time on non-makeup-related activities that fulfill me, the less I feel the urge to get new things. For now, please give yourself grace. If makeup is helping you go through the grief and brings you joy, so be it. I'm so sorry for your loss and I hope you can find a little bit of peace to help you go through this ❤

It takes a long time to grieve so be gentle with yourself ❤ I still am a mess some days and my pops (grandfather who was more of a father figure) passed away almost 4 years ago. I went through a phase of overbuying to fill a void and you’re doing good recognizing that isn’t working. I hope you take care ❤

I applaud you for this. Theres some influencers that push new new new then they declutter. Most of us cant afford ti do that. I was on a year no buy and i wax fine. Honestly the 1st 2 months were the hardest. But then i realized i could dupe most new releases But then black Friday i blew it. Now I'm pissed at myself because all these new indy brands pallets once i put them all together the same shades keep coming up. Im not buying anything until i have empties. And ill be selling eyeshadow pallets blushes and bronzers.

I feel you and I'm considering a low buy with only one palette par season (still thinking about the rules I want to set for myself) and only getting replacements for the other categories. My collection is so tiny compared to yours and most of my fellow friends here, but I'm still feeling overwhelmed. I went from having one or two products in each category last fall to having multiple choices in each one today. I got caught up in the experimentation process and the desire to have options in my collection after years of not wearing makeup, and I don't like the direction I'm going in. I love most of the things I got in that period but I need space to give love to items I like and/or was so eager to get when I purchased them. I think the recent shift in your content will benefit your channel more than you realize. As you said, people search things on KZbin, and I've seen an influx of people getting interested (I follow several channels that had a huge growth in the last year) in slowing down, using what they have, and questioning themselves about why they buy and why they desire things. I know it's more you sharing your journey with your collection than a deliberate shift, but it's super relevant, especially in those times of economic uncertainty (I live in France, so I'm bracing myself too).

I’ve noticed that I like when makeup is not just the focus but when I can her about other things. For example, I’ve been enjoying this one creator who will sort of just share interesting headlines or stories but in a lighthearted thoughtful interesting way. Now it’s not like the previous “story time videos” which I didn’t really care for. Cause it still fell under that click bait problem. It’s more of a genuine sharing of what interests them. Cara, I remember how much I enjoyed hearing you talk a bit about your work as a teacher. Everytime Abbott Elementary comes u.p, I think of you and wonder if you have watched the show and how you feel about the show if you watch it. I would love for you to explore this if it’s something you are interested in. I think longevity in this type of space is about creating a community that shares in your overall interests and not just the makeup

I’ve been watching empties, declutters, and hygiene routine videos lately 😅 I don’t want to buy something new unless it is something I intend to keep for years. I’m here for whatever you choose to film! ETA - I did a slow declutter over the course of a year while on a low buy. I took my time since I’m not a content creator 😂 I made a monthly makeup capsule of what to focus on, and if I didn’t love it? Pass it on. I thank goodness have released every single “oh maybe this could be a winter shade” foundation so I only own things that are ACTUALLY in my shade range and be thankful I broke the cycle of looking like I was embalmed 😅

I'm here for all of this! I have makeup I bought BF 2023 that I still haven't used and just bought more- but this time with intention. Because I wfh I don't always feel like doing my makeup but I love color stories. I did figure out that the new ER palette Light in Your Eyes reminds me of the Subculture and 420 palettes. Just add my Clionadh singles and BAM! So that was a no. Then the new BBB sassyfaerie palette is a bunch of blues and I don't wear blue shadow enough to get a monochromatic palette of it- BlendBunny longing will be enough. It's hard but we need to keep at it- one palette/sale at a time. I do wish I had more eyes though 🙂

I just went through everything from t-shirts to skincare! Now for the month of December I'm falling back in live with my singles. During that time, if the color doesn't move me, i put into a separate palette to give away. January, i will be pulling out palettes and products never used to use them if they don't move me after two uses, they go in a box out of sight. When the box gets full I give it away. I appreciate your video because I totally feel the same way. I want to love whatever i lay my hands on. Again, thank you for sharing.

How do you feel about project panning? You could create your own. Or pick a color every month and film using those palettes. For instance orange for October and film using your favorite orange, burnt orange eye shadow or lip gloss. How about whenever a new palette comes out give us suggestions of old ones to use with the same color story. I get frustrated because new palettes are only show for the first six months and forgotten about. I want to see new looks to me from older palettes. I think many viewers are in the same boat as you are, wanting to spend less and be happy with what you have. I love your channel and live for August cameo bombs! lol. He is a born entertainer!

I totally agree with you, and I loved your video. It’s exactly what I’m going through. I’m not an influencer, but I have so many eyeshadows, concealers, foundations, blushes, etc., and in the end, I always end up using the same products. Every week, there’s a new palette, a new blush, a new lipstick, and I’ve fallen into consumerism, buying and buying just because it’s the newest thing-whether it’s high-end, indie brands, or even drugstore products. I’m a compulsive buyer, and my addiction is makeup. I was thinking it would be really cool if you could make some tutorials using makeup we already have, things we’ve bought that are really worth it. But it’s just not possible to keep up with the brands constantly launching new products and spending thousands and thousands of dollars. 😞😞😞😞😞

For skincare, I follow Dr Vanita Rattan. She specializes in products for people of color. She is a formulator. It has really helped me understand that all skincare is not made for us melanated brothers and sisters and what we have to be careful of, like denatured alcohol and essential oils in skincare. I think you would enjoy her content.

I have a question. Absolutely no judgement but why do people keep products that they put away and dont use or look at? I dont get the nostalgia part of it especially if your just moving it to a different location. Why not give itbto someone to enjoy because it will just be more clutter somewhere else. Please know im not judging just curious.

I think you should consider stopping to do the "New Makeup Releases" videos for a while. Or at least instead of doing them weekly, do them monthly. I know that this is a tough decision, since you said they bring in a lot of consistent views. It helped me a lot with my overconsumption to not watch these types of videos/ posts on Instagram. Your mind is not occupied with hunting the next best thing. Seeing your content and mindset lately, I feel it would free up some of your time for other video ideas and projects. Doing a no pan left behind project also helped me to learn a lot about my collection and preferences. I'm not doing project pans for eyeshadow since I have to many. Would love to hear your feedback on this. ❤
