Many thanks for this. I had the HDD part of a fusion drive replaced with a 2.5" SSD in my 2015 iMac a few years ago. Wish I'd known to implement this sooner. Need to make a couple of fresh drive clones before I try it.

If you're loading the OS via OCLP, there is a checkbox to enable TRIM (settings -> extras). Saves a step.

Great - came to check this out after watching the upgrade for Mid-2015 MacBook Pro so I know the worst case scenario. Not urgent, but curious, does it ever fail to work and if so, would you just reboot; re-enter code, or use without TRIM?

What about external SSD drives? I have a drive constantly plugged into my Mac. Should I use this command (will it work for external drives)?

Hi Thanks for your video, worked great. Is there a reverse unit of the sin tech that will allow the old MacBook ssd to be used as a conventional m.2 ssd?
@FamilyGeekery Жыл бұрын
There’s this: amzn.to/3qlFrVb It only works for certain models (16/12 pin) and won’t work with a usb enclosure. If you also search Amazon for “NGFF MacBook enclosure” you’ll see another type, but fairly expensive. Hope that helps!

I've been following your videos as I upgrade my 2015 early MacBook Pro SSD drive. I have a 1TB SSD with the adapter board. I've built the bootable USB drive w/Monterey. If I install a clean copy of Monterey on the new SSD, how do I clone the old Apple 512GB SSD. To the new one?
@FamilyGeekery2 ай бұрын
I have a video on cloning your old macOS to a new drive. There are a few different methods. Time Machine is one, cloning with a USB adapter is another. Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

@ can you recommend a usb adapter for the 512GB SSD drive? I think it would need to accept NGFF ?
@W1BIU2 ай бұрын
@ got it done. 1. With the old drive installed, I did a fresh Time Machine backup onto a 500gb data SSD. 2. Installed the 1TB SSD and booted from the thumb drive and installed a clean copy of Monterey. 3. Restored from Time Machine. 4. Bobs your uncle! Thanks for listening. 73

On my early 2015 MacBook Pro nothing shows up under sata it has a different tab labeled express. Is this normal?

Hi I have 2 internal ssd drives, 1 for macOS and the other for win11. I noticed it enabled TRIM for both drives and now my win11 os is running so slow, it lags/freezes

This doesn't seem to work for Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). Is there an alternative? I've found several online pointers to Trim Enabler (a third party app) but it's hard to know if this is a safe tool (and a safe download). Suggestions?

If I’m going to put a new battery and a new hard drive and new ram into my MacBook Pro 2011 13 inch model, can you list the steps in order for instance, back up data from old hard drive, (and how to do that) Then install new hardware, then enable trim, then reinstall data onto new hard drive? Is that how I would go about it? I viewed your other video about installing the hardware and operating system onto the MacBook 2011 model but I wish there was a concise video showing the process of saving and transfering the data from the old hardware to the new one. I can’t find a video like that.

I’ve got a video on cloning your hard drive after you install the new one. That same premise can be used beforehand as well (just by changing the order of steps). It involves using a sata-usb adapter. Another option is using an external drive and using Apple’s Time Machine. If you go that route, I would back up data with Time Machine, install new hardware, restore your backup using system restore/Time Machine, then enable trim once it’s all setup. Hope that helps. Let me know what other questions you have. And thanks for watching!

I want to buy a old Mac. is Mac pro best to buy or Mac air?
@FamilyGeekery2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the specs, I suppose. I don’t think there are any Air’s you can upgrade the ram on, so make sure if you get an Air, you start with the amount of ram you want. Also, you can’t upgrade the cpu, and Macbook Pro’s usually have the stronger processors.
