when I was a teen and got my first parrot, my dad got him used to bathing with a spray bottle. He said that that was how his family always bathed their parrots back in Jamaica, and that it simulated rain to them. Our parrot LOVED it. He would spread his wings, start cleaning himself all over, triggered his instincts, and eventually that got him jumping into the bath all on his own. It was super cute to watch! I'll have to try some of these new methods with my new parrotlet, if he/she isn't super into bathing at first :)

We don’t actually currently have a UV light for any of ourbirds and I’d really appreciate some advice on what to look for. Where in the UK, but I find your videos to be some of the most comprehensive out there. Keep them coming :-)

Okay, so I still don’t have a UV light, but something amazing just happened! Tried a bowl I have never tried before, barely deeper than some plates, and the only bird who has ever had a problem with bath time took a bath!

Stephanie in her “parrotlet basics” video she addresses the type of bulb to get. Reptile uv bulbs are too high uv be they bask in the sun whereas parrotlets fly to shady spots when wild.

Jennifer Marali I know this might seem like a really daft question, but it doesn’t depend with the type of birds you have? We have a zebra finch, two canaries, 2 kakarikis and a cockatiel. The cockatiel was the one who was troublesome with his bath until now.

My little Lemon (my cockatiel) doesn’t like baths, and he flies away every time I tried to give him one. Today, I watered some lettuce and left it on a plate. He was hesitant at first, but then he was walking around and gave himself a bath. This helped a lot!

I've seen some birds "bathe" in sand in my region. Is that an option ? A sand bath ?

That’s common to see in some different types of birds like passerines! They do it to remove/ absorb oils from their feathers. This is not a typical behaviour for parrots however, I wouldn’t necessarily offer them a dust bath since they’re much more likely to just eat the grains and get an impaction.

my cockatiel likes it when he goes in but only goes in like once every 6 months 😄 my green cheek is super sensitive and learnt to be scared of water because of the tiel, he used to love bathing everyday. Anyway, now I have gotten my green cheek back to loving the water and hes in the shower everyday. Cockatiel on the other hand... XD

What do you think about spraying my bird from behind with a bottle of water? I have tried it and he usually flies away but I'm able to get him wet. Should I not do it if he doesn't seem to enjoy it? I did try to put him in a bird bathtub that I purchased if he wanted nothing to do with it. I'm going to try it with the light But he doesn't eat fresh vegetables yet. The breeder gave him only seed. He is 5 months old And I've gotten him to eat a little bit of freeze dried veggies.

I place a loosely capped bottle on top of the cage just above the bird bath which lets water drip down slowly..the watery noise that the dripping water creates easily encourages my budgies to take a good bath..they seem to enjoy it :)

My budgie dislikes water spritzers and will only bath when I'm "bathing" with her in a dish. She'll just walk on over to my hand, grab onto my finger, and flap her wings a bit. It's the only time that she's willing to get close to me 🤣

Yeah! Different birds prefer different temperatures. Mine like warm water but I know birds who prefer cold ones.
