It can be used to store any files: text, docs, with or without password protection. You can even store the files that were encrypted (the files you need password to decrypt them).

Thanks! I do have a few questions though 1. Can we use it for unencrypted stuff besides the encrypted volume? So we don't need to format it right? 2. What if someone takes the usb and clicks format this drive, because the computer doesn't recognize it? 3. What if I close veracrypt while I was mounted? 4. What if I didn't dismount but I did turn off my pc?

1. The encrypted volume acts like a secure container allowing you to store sensitive data. You can store normal or unencrypted files on other partition on the same usb. 2. The sensitive data will be gone. No one can access it. 3. You will need to start it again to dismount the mounted volume. 4. Then the program will be closed and the volume will be dismounted. You may have potential loss if you don't save the file before shutting down your computer.

Hi, this was very helpful but I have a question. Can we do anything with drive "E?" Every time I plug my USB in it asks me to format the disk drive which is very annoying. Thank you!

There is one workaround which is to remove the drive letter assigned to the 2nd partition on the USB. You can use Disk Management, right click on the partition, select "Change the drive letter and paths" then click on Remove button. If the drive letter is removed it will not be listed in the Explorer so Explore will not ask to format it again. Hope it work out for you.

What happens if you click reformat once you encrypted it will it wipe or need to get access first?

Yes, it wil wipe out everything, so pls don't try to reformat.

Is there any other way that it automatically execute the veracrypt once you inserted the usb flash drive and automatically mount and ask for the password? Like Truecrypt back those days :)

Yes, VeraCrypt does have an auto-mount feature. While I haven't come across comprehensive documentation for it, you can try it out to see how it works.

It's a good tool to encrypt usb! Veracrypt is an alternative one, especially for those who doesn't have Bitlocker, like those who are using Windows 10 Home Edition.

I used to love Veracrypt but like many people I have the issue of it wont dismount if viewing jpg's. If I go into the Task manager and tell Windows explorer to restart it lets me dismount but then it can crash the system. Seems like a not uncommon issue that there is no good solution too.

Please follow two steps: 1. Make sure you move all your files out of the encrypted volume. 2. Use Disk Management to delete partitions on USB, then create one new partition and format it.
