A few notes: 1 - DO NOT FORGET YOUR PASSWORD 2 - This will work across pretty much all modern flash and hard drives 3 - Formatting to APFS will prevent this device from being used on Windows or Android, Apple OS Systems only.

Thank you! Is it possible to make it work on a Windows PC and then on an iPhone 15 pro? For that I assume, we can't use APFS.
@PhilipBlank4 ай бұрын
@@482ksdactually someone just commented they used a Mac emulator on their windows and then it worked on their iPhone since they did not have a Mac. Pretty clever but probably not simple. You could also find someone with a Mac or go to an Apple Store with your drive and set it there on a display computer.

Nice video. Will u know why my hard drive will show on my iPad Pro but not my iPhone pro ?
@PhilipBlank2 ай бұрын
That I do not know! Is it formatted to the Mac Extended? If formatted in the way I showed I’ve never had it not work on an iPhone.

So helpful , also one question if i encrypt the drive from my mac and open the drive in my iPhone 11( lighting port) through a otg will it ask for a password?
@PhilipBlank5 ай бұрын
@@rishabpareek1795 that’s a great question that I sadly don’t have an answer for, I never purchased an adapter to try on anything lightning so maybe someone would be able to comment and help. I imagine the password is relevant still as there is no way to get around it but it’s a matter of will the adapter properly read the drive. I would order a cheap one on Amazon to trial it, if it doesn’t work you can always return, that’s how I do a lot of trial and error with devices. Best of luck!

how do i set a password on my flashdrive if i only have a windows laptop? (i use an iphone 15)
@PhilipBlank5 ай бұрын
I don’t believe that you can, it’s using Apple’s file formatting system which is not readable on windows let alone formatable. The best bet would be find someone with a Mac or go to an Apple Store and see if they’d let you use a showpiece Mac to do it.

Hi @philipblank, thanks for the helpful guide! If i buy a new usbc drive, do I need to format it anyways? Its showing me the option to encrypt from start without the need to format.
@sonbnd618019 күн бұрын
I'm asking because i mostly use my iphone and my windows machine. So i like the convenience of being able to access that drive with a laptop too if that makes sense
@PhilipBlank18 күн бұрын
Great question! But I believe the answer is no, the APFS formatting encryption is for Mac only, if you’re using ExFat or something cross compatible, the encryption I used here is different than what would work on that. There may be another software that encrypts on top of the device more like a translator, but to be honest I’ve not researched that much for windows.
@PhilipBlank18 күн бұрын
Also curious what is showing the option to encrypt? The PC is showing it or iPhone? I’d give it a go on the PC and see what happens when plugged into the iPhone but I’d be using a blank drive as to not lose any damage. I’d love to hear the results!
@sonbnd618015 күн бұрын
@@PhilipBlank yes on Mac! Basically as soon as i plug the pendrive i right click on the icon and choose “encrypt”. It allows me to skip the whole format step… I cant see if it works for Iphone though since I’ve tried with a usb-A but tomorrow i’ll try with a Usb-C and report back my findings
@sonbnd618015 күн бұрын
@ so i’ve found an alternative way, you can actually format and encrypt with APFS directly in your iphone 15/16 ! Just plug in the drive, hold press on the drive name in files, select erase and then choose the encrypt option with APFS

I do not have a mac Can i do that using my iphone or ipad?
@PhilipBlank3 ай бұрын
You can not on the phone, it must be through a Mac unless you’re tech savvy enough to install a Mac emulator on a PC. The next option is to find a friend or store with a Mac, and use their’s to do it. Just be cautions people do not like you inserting random USB drives into their devices.
