My aunt recently asked me during a phone conversation: “What are you doing for fun?” Such a simple question, but it really gave me pause for thought. I *used to* go cycling, go hiking, do this + do that, but what was I currently doing for fun? Not having an answer to her question made me sad, and her question has been replaying in my mind ever since…so today I finally set aside time to go hiking. After just a one-hour hike, I left the trail with the best feeling I’ve had in a long time. It’s too easy to get bogged down by work and responsibilities…my aunt and you are both excellent reminders that having fun is vital and, of course, fun!! 😊

Good Job on the whales and the pancakes. Love this type of video. I make junk journals and use them for art and collage! Great outlet for creativity.

I love how in your flow you are in this video. Also, yes so true on not having to wait for kids to "play" and even though yes I have two kids its a good reminder to play myself. I LOVE the lego flowers (didnt even know stuff like that existed) and the whale.. too cute. You've inspired me xo

Can you please do a video on your crochet journey? like what you started with and where you're currently at? it's been so fun to see tidbits of it in your vlogs!!!

I feel inspired to start those creative projects I have had in mind for a while. 🎉 Also, what you say about not having to be perfect and just having fun reminded me of one of my favorite quotes from Downton Abbey. The Dowager says: "Sir Richard, life is a game in which the player must appear ridiculous."

You inspired me with your chickens and a month ago I have started to learn knitting. A 20 years ago my grandma tried to teach me, but it was impossible for me. Now i have already knitted 3 hats (first one was not beatiful, but still, mine :D), loooooong scarf and started to knit headband. I know that my Grandma would be proud. :) So thank you for the inspiration! Now i always have in my backpack Kindle, fountain pens, journal and something to knit. 😅

Such a nice video and a very important topic to talk about!! I started crocheting (inspired by the chickens and some other videos) and although I don't have a lot of time for it, doing whatever I can to take 20 minutes to practice, has definitely helped me feel fulfilled and happy. Deciding to avoid mindless scrolling and prioritizing a creative activity, even if it's only for 20 minutes, it's having a great impact on my mental health. So thanks for sharing ❤

Love the whales🐳🐳🐳! I tried painting with watercolours and gouache a couple of years ago and I’m pretty terrible but I love it. Time just disappears while I’m puttering away. It’s a great escape!

This topic is so important and it’s not discussed enough. I’m finishing law school and I’ve been on a mental health journey for the last year because law school and a lot of personal life changes have really negatively impacted me. Part of how I am trying to improve my mental health is making time for activities and I’m still working on finding creative outlets that aren’t super similar to the work I need to do for work/school. But even just making time to exercise or paint my nails has a huge impact on me. I need to explore more creative hobbies and activities.

I've been playing Animal Crossing here and there since quarantine and I get a boost of creativity whenever I build/design my island, I also enjoy building Lego!! I'm about to start my pottery class this year and hopefully diving into crocheting as well though it looks a bit intimidating to me 😅 Hope you can enjoy some sunshine these winter days in Toronto, I've been loving it so far!! 💗✨

I've been reflecting on life and myself since the beginning of the year (over a month now). This video popped up and some points in my brain made connections and thus I wanted to share. I think one of my internal struggles is my lack of creativity during my adult years. I drew all the time on anything and everything as a kid and teenager. I loved art wholeheartedly and that was all that I did and wanted to do. I had a ton of supplies, sketchbooks, and (most importantly) ideas. I even entered in some competitions which earned me a few awards. Nowadays, I don't draw at all and stick in my path of moving myself up the career ladder. I have aspirations of becoming a content creator but I think I lack the creativity to produce good, watchable, and original content. I used to spend hours just drawing and making art because it was so enjoyable to my happy, child-aged self. Nowadays, I feel like drawing would be a "time-suck" and my now stressed, adult-aged self would justify that my time is limited and invaluable so it should be put toward "doing other things" whether its making more money with a new side hustle, building my skill resume through a new course, finding a new job in a new city, or other things I *think* are important to "move me forward". They do move me forward, don't get me wrong, but in just one area of my life. I find some joy in doing those things but I feel in my soul that being creative through things like art, writing, or even crocheting would rebirth a long-time buried happiness. I can't just stick with the same "work stuff" every day anymore. You're right, I need to make time for fun and creative things. Watching this video has sparked a small flame in me just now. I want to draw again. I will draw again and make time to do it more often. I want to do a lot things I think about but push aside because of work. Thank you Caitlin for this video; it really, really helped me out. (P.S.: Sorry if this is too much or over the top. I had "fireworks" within myself and wanted to thank you.) (P.P.S.: I also like this type of video versus the beloved vlogs. I love those too but this video just hit different.)

I grew up telling myself I am not creative (who does that, such an odd kind of self talk, I get it when it is I am so weak, or fat or whatever). Now I wake up and ask myself what am I going to do that is creative? I am doing slow stitching (after about a year of knitting during which I injured my shoulder), weaving, fermentation, sprouting. It is all the things you say: getting into flow, using intuitive guidance, relaxing, sense of accomplishment. Thanks for this video!

A big hobby of mine is definitely cooking! I don't get to do it as often as I'd like, but when I do, I find myself having so much fun. An idea to try to get a more vibrant pink without food coloring would maybe try using beet powder? It doesn't have much flavor and wouldn't change the volume of the recipe. We've been using it in the café I work at to make pink milk for valentines lattes! ❤

Thank YOU for the great content! I started watching your bullet journal videos years ago and I’m still here because I always take something from your videos into my own life. Like after your last video, I’ve implemented a new morning routine before work. Just arriving at the office one hour later than usual (because I couldn’t bring myself to get up earlier 😂) transformed these last few days for me. Instead of starting the day rushing to the bathroom and then to the train, I journal, do yoga and take my time getting ready. I love it ❤ Thank you so much for making enjoyable content that is not only there to be consumed but to have a real-life impact, even across continents and oceans 😊

The biggest thing for me this year is to reignite the passion for said hobbies I’ve already bought supplies for and not to buy any new gear. I’m currently on a budget which means that this year I might have to put off crocheting and Lego building and buying yarn for certain projects and just use what I have. A very difficult feat for me right now.

A prompt I've heard to journal on is what did you enjoy doing when you were 9 years old. You had enough skills to have hobbies but yet we're not old enough to have an extreme amount of responsibilities or a job. One of the things I enjoyed doing was making cards out of just paper and markers and stickers and now I absolutely love to bullet journal. I also liked to read and write and I still find those things enjoyable.

I think your chickens are the best, but those whales are so cute!!! 🐋😍 I'm super into creative projects, always trying new things, or old things that I haven't done in a long time. And I like to give the things that I made, so my friends are always getting watercolours, amigurumi dolls, handmade notebooks, bonbons, etc. Creativity is super important, it gives us joy, relaxation, energy, and comfort, expands our horizons and keeps us young. Those pancakes look yummy, BTW 🤤

I love this girly creative era in life 🧸🎀🎨 I was recently invited to a craft party and it was lovely! so many of us brought our own supplies of a craft we've been meaning to do and there were so many people willing to share a new hobby. I tried a little origami and the gem artwork but I brought a scrapbook. Some people were doing practical things like sewing up a hole in a sock and 3D modeling a plastic cover they lost. One guy just drew the bookshelf in front of him. It was absolutely wonderful (:

I love writing fiction. It’s my main joy in life, but I currently do it just for fun. I want to try to sell my stories though, which I worry will change the balance. I also love digital art. I don’t like traditional art mediums so much because I struggle with the mess. Creativity means, to me, passion and joy without fear or expectation. I don’t know if that makes sense…
