I love the enthusiasm Slate has for his work. In fact its a running theme throughout the devs I favour. Kush, Slate and SoundToys are all massively into what they do and aren't afraid to shout about it. I like that.

I'm a singer too, so first off I gotta say you sound damn good. The song reminds me of some Kings of Leon ( kick ass)..... I'm looking forward to receiving my ILock and loading up the Slate Bundle next week. I've known for months now that I'd be using your tools for the rest of my life. I love what you do and the fact we both sing makes it even more special to me....

Great video and this will be a big help in deciding which EQ's to use since I've never used the hardware versions. Hopefully there's also a nice gate in the works for the VMR.

Hi chaps, great video - and for a complete mixing novice like me it's really helpful. Would you consider doing something similar for your compressors too? Again, being new to all of this I'd find it to be a massive help. All the best, Karim.

This is a demonstration on how to use these eqs together to do subtractive and additive processing so questions about peak would be irrelevant. If it were a mix video I'm sure Steve would've pulled them awesome compressors into mix rack....another vid hopefully🤓

Not all EQs are the same! I have ran some of my old compositions through these, and I thought I did well mixing them, until I ran them through these. I had a synth oboe type sound that was annoyingly sharp, but I couldn't put a bead on why, even after much EQing. Using the FG-S then FG-N, it carved away the harsh element, then boosted a sweeter tone to it. I also took a recording from a friend's KZbin guitar and vocal, only recorded on a phone, and mixed it through these, and her reaction was "OMG what did you do to me?" I used the LIFT to fatten up the non existent lows, and removed the hollow 'room' effect, then notched out the little thing she does with 'ou' vowels (she admits it's annoying, but I said, it's just an EQ issue). I'd love you guys to hear an A-B of that, but it's not mine to show. SLATE, as we say in the UK, this is 'The dogs bollocks!' (you might want to Google it) lol.

Hello, know if all of Slate's drum sounds on this program will be on the Pearl Mimic Pro module? Please tell me, if possible, what you about what is on and not on the module. I was sort of hoping the Bonham's drum sounds would be on it. Super thanks and very nice presentation.

Also worth mentioning how many of these VMR's I can run compared to other comparable vst's, without any of the lag. I mean, I can add enough VMR's to *get* lag, but it would take some doing!

From everything I've learned from some pretty good mixers, you're better off using subtractive EQ first before boosting anything. Also any comparisons should always be made level matched because higher volume tricks you ear into thinking it's better when it may not be.
@jonathanhales790

Either way this is a badass plugin! Volume can play you for a fool but even while keeping that in mind it's easy to see that this is useful tool, no matter the technique.

This proves just how new I am to all this because I thought all the dry versions sounded pretty good (minus the female vocal).. I definitely thought all the EQs made everything better of course but when I first heard all the samples I was like "meh what's the problem?".. I've got a lot to learn. Just signed up.

@@dangdrjay3011 Lol this 5 year later check-in has restored my faith in humanity. Well, my ears are much better, but I haven't grinded nonstop, but when I decide to record something, I grind hard. I've recorded a few songs and my mixes have definitely improved (mastering engineer verified this). If there's anything I discovered about myself, it's that I always relied(rely still..trying to kick it) on listening with my eyes instead of my ears. I will now close my eyes with listening to samples or ABing tracks to see if I can truly spot differences.

the plugins are good...but why after all these "boosts" etc , which obviously adds volume, does he not compensate for this by bringing down the output level to match these boosts in volume ater all...its the sound that the eq is supposed to change/correct....not the volume !!!!

When I have the VMR plugin window open during playback in Pro Tools it crashes my session. If I stop the track, do any adjustments and then close the plugin window and press play it runs perfectly fine. Anybody else get this or know what might be causing it? I thought it could be a graphics card issue. Sometimes happens with the VBC as well.

I like using graphical eq plugins for obvious reasons. I would think everyone would prefer them. Can amyone explain that. If i got used to the knob type, would i probably like it more? What am i missing?
@izvarzone
@izvarzone 3 жыл бұрын
I got used to these and then realize I don't really need to see curve or analyzer. I think it even affects how you dial sound. Not caring about how cool or correct curve looks, or about numbers. I think it's also much faster to dial sound in knob than moving line in digital-style EQ's.

I do sometimes use izotope ozone. Because of sound, not because of curve.

Saskiequelle - the SSL is great but it will never sound like a Neve and vice versa. The 8048 model VCC with the 1073 will add some character to electronic mixes that you will love. I mix all styles and it surprised me how a console from the 70's that I would use for a blues song is also perfect for EDM.
