The ASP 800 has a great preamp system, But for me I just needed line level ins So I added a Behringer ADA 8200 to my Audient ID 14 MK II. This combination has been extremely solid and saved me 600 dollars US. If you need the coloring preamps the ASP 800 is a superb addition to the Audient ID 14 MKII. Thank you so much for this detailed video.

Hey Mike, Thanks heaps for making this, you have no idea how much time and effort you're saving us noobs! (liked and subbed too). I understand this concept quite clearly thanks to your excellent tutorial but what I'm struggling with now is how would you route all of this to go through ONE external mic preamp to add some character and warmth to the recording? Say my setup is this: Audient iD14 (slave) to a Behringer Ultragain ADA8200 ADAT - and the source I want to record is drums. I've got a kick drum mic and a snare mic plugged into the two Audient iD14 pre's and then two overhead mics plugged into the Behringer via ADAT (so a total of 4 inputs being used simultaneously). I then want to send the entire drum signal through an external "character" mic preamp such as the Warm Audio wa73 and back into the interface for recording the drum tracks with the warmth from the Warm mic pre. Is this setup even possible? I hope this kind of makes sense. Please feel free to point me to a video on this if you've already done one. Thanks again Mike and take care!

Question: I use a UA Apollo for specific use of the Avalon 737 plug in to supplement my hardware 737. If I ran a higher end preamp like the asp800, would I be able to take advantage of the higher end pre to still be able to use the Avalon plug in after recording?

I have an iD44 and instead of the asp800 or asp880 I was looking into the Clarett octopre and I'm tempted to get it for expansion instead. Would this process still work the same? I was shopping for more inputs, but in the end concluded that my current four-input is enough - in my case, recording four at a time is enough. I have more than four things to record, just not all at the same time. The cheap solution was a patchbay. No good if you need to record ten at once, but in my case it fixed the problem cheaply.

Thanks Mike! That's something I didn't know even after many years of producing my own music. Expandability has just recently become a concern for me, and I find myself having many audio interfaces and none have ADAT. I'll be sure to look out for that connection type in the future. Although, I must say, the ASP 800 is a great piece of gear that comes with a hefty price tag for a hobbyist. ;) I guess I'll have to save up a bit if I want my extra inputs. ;) I have a question though. You show the routing for the ID14, but are all those inputs managed correctly/easily in Cakewalk too? Are the ASP 800 inputs seen as normal inputs or is there extra configuration to do for them to be seen?
@CreativeSauce
@CreativeSauce 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dany. Yes the ASP certainly is substantial outlay for most, and at the same time, it's stood the test of time. The preamps are incredible. Once setup, all of the inputs are seen by Cakewalk (or any other DAW), as if they are a part of the main interface. In fact, it's kind of 'set and forget'! Thanks for watching, it's appreciated.

Hi Mike. I have a metric halo 2882 interface that want to ADAT link to the Audient via ADAT. The 2882 will send to the Audient. Was wondering if analogue to digital conversion will occur twice when using two interfaces or will it just occur in 2882 , meaning will the audient take the ADAT transferred signal and re convert it, or will it recognise its already converted and just take care of the digital back to audio conversion for output? (I just got a headache trying to explain that) thanks

So the extension ( audientASP800) in this case has it's own A/D converter? I though thats the point in extensions, that you use your audio interface's converter and just plug in more preamps. What's the point then in doing that insted of just buying new audio interface? Or what if you have great converter like some universal audio, and want just more inputs? Is there any way to do that differently?

Does it add some latency? I mean, if i have a guitar using asp800's input 1, will i be able to direct monitor what I'm playing? I suppose as the signal needs to pass thru d/a - a/d converters before reaching the monitors on the interface, it will add some processing time.
@CreativeSauce
@CreativeSauce 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Actually there is no perceivable latency. Remember this is a digital connection, so no analogue signsl is being sent between devices. So the A/D conversion is just the same as if you had more preamps added to your interface

So this year I am Also will invest on Mastering Grade Gears such as SSL Fusion or Thinking to Get Summing mixer. i know Lyra 2 isn't good choice for outboard gears But what about Using ADAT expansion because my Focusrite has one too Also both has worldclock . so if i EXpand my Lyra 2 ( master ) with focusrite ( Slave ) & connectiong outboard gears with my focusrite ? & keep my monitor speakers connected with the Lyra 2 to hear from Great DAs of Lyra . is it good choice ? i hope it will Bypass The CHeap AD/DA of focusrite and i only utilize the quality AD/DAs of Prism Lyra , Or i am going to hurt the quality of Lyra with such setup , sorry if this setup sounds stupid , actually just stepping in Analogue . i don't want to spend more on titan , becuase i want to buy outboard gear as well with it. ( also please don't suggest me get room treatment and great Pair Of Monitors first before going analogue , i have good room and good monitors , if i want to use analogue i just want to,thats how i will learn. lol

ADAT? I'm currently working on a video about this that centers around building a time machine, traveling back to 1995 and where you can get plenty of cheap NOS VHS tapes. It should be up yesterday. BTW, I hated ADAT, especially when attempting to slave machines (many times video machines) with SMTPE. Alesis owes me compensation for several nervous breakdowns, gray hair, ptsd, and many other life altering complications which arose due to using their gear under duress.

so i can only plug Audient stuff through ADAT? i tried a Tascam DM-24 console and I couldn't make it work. Just shows me red light in the ID software, like it's incompatible. =(

Hi Yung. Items don't have to be the same brand to work together with adat, but they do need to be set correctly. The red light indicates it does have sync. One needs to be set as master, the other as slave, else they won't sync.

Hi Mike. Great video, thank you very much. I'm searching in the manual and forums for just the opposite case that your video explains, and don't find an answer, maybe you know about this: Is it possible to use the adat outs of an ID44 to expand another system? I want to expand a Fireface 802 with 4 more channels, and I'm trying to connect the ID44 adat outs to the Fireface adat ins, but I did not success. I made the opposite and it worked, just in your video; connecting the Fireface into the ID44 worked perfectly. But I'm interested in use the Fireface as the main unit, as the routing matrix of its software is gorgeous. If anybody can help me it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
