So, so helpful thankyou. I'm teaching myself psychology A-level here in the uk and I'm really trying to get to grips with evaluating correctly as it seems to be something examiners believe students fail to do properly and in return student answers are too generic. This really helped me understand the difference between a very generic answer and an answer that is worthy of scoring high marks, I cannot thankyou enough :)

Could you please explain with an example or two a difference between mundane realism and ecological validity? That would be very helpful. Great video, thank you!

Sure thing. Let's take Loftus and Palmer. The procedure is requiring Ps to judge speeds of cars - is this a common thing that people do? Not really. It's not really reflective of the type of scenarios that eye-witnesses give testimony on. This is a question of mundane realism. Answering the eye-witness testimony questions is happening in a lab (presumably), not a police interrogation room or even a police station, as would be normal environment for such questions - this is a question of ecological validity.

Is your book available for me to buy in the UK? I would like to do some wider reading. I feel that the textbooks I have available to me here are too simmered down for me to understand the concepts properly. Taking into account your really fine tuned explanation, I would assume your textbook is really helpful aswell. Please let me know how I may be able to purchase it, thankyou.

Hi, we ship to the UK, no problems. Check the link in the description of the video. If you do a search I think there are a couple of UK booksellers that stock our books, but I don't know for sure sorry.

Could you please clarify if we can talk about ecological validity in qualitative studies? e.g. focus groups have high ecological validity because they are more natural than 1x1 interviews. Would students be penalised for saying that or is it correct? Thank you!

We don't use the term generalizability or ecological validity in qualitative studies. The term to use is "transferability."

Hopefully my bigger blackboard solves this problem.

Lol, I know what you’re saying. Those markers are so much better than some chalk, but only when you are writing slowly. But chalk is so.... chalky. Line nails on a chalkboard. BTW, he’s so good I could tolerate almost anything. (The sound of dull pencil on paper is the worst!)
