Couple steps missing here for me. First, set the primary account for contacts to iCloud rather than gmail on your phone. Then when you are trying to export, hit the share button and select create new contacts

Go to Contact on your IPhone and add your google account. After doing that your contacts will appear on your phone. Bro's method is so dumb and slow
