How to Extract or Download Subtitles From a Wistia Video

In this video, I'm going to show you How to Extract or Download Subtitles or Captions from a Wistia Video.
I'll also show you how to convert the subtitle to plain text.
Wistia is a popular video hosting platform and just like KZbin, there's no direct way to download subtitles.
The alternative involves inspecting code which is pretty easy.
Wistia hosts subtitles in the captions track and for this video the subtitle file is WEBVTT (.vtt subtitle) which is a basic subtitle format.

Here's a slightly different method that worked for me when this one didn't (because no src URL was appearing) Open Inspect element, go to the Network tab. Reload the webpage, play the video for a few seconds with closed captions turned on In the Network inspect element area's search box, look for "vtt", and there should only be one result showing. Double click it, and it will open in a new tab. Then you can save as VTT or copy paste the text into notepad

Hello! Thank you for the video. I followed your instructions and they worked pretty well, but the vtt file I got is a bit different. It has all the timestamps to the captions but instead of text, it presents an url to a png sprite to every text line, and of course the mapping is different for each line . I downloaded the png sprite, but its just a thumbnail stack. Any thoughts?

It didn't work for me. I wrote '' captions '', but I couldn't find the file. Is there another way to download them? P.S. The problem may be the fact that the subtitles I'm looking for, are not in English but in Greek. Should I write something else in the place of the word ''captions'' ? Can you turn the captions on or off? If yes, try searching for SRT or VTT. If there's no option to turn on or off the captions then that means the subtitles are permanently burned in the video. There's no way to extract those. You can also try searching for the language e.g.Greek in your case. Thanks.

No, it doesn't. Note that some videos also have subtitles permanently burned in to the video and therefore they'll be no caption stream. Thanks!
