First, thank you for your video! I’m trying the second method. Once I finished the downloads and in cloud recovery mode, I get a pop up that says “please plug in the adapter before proceeding the next step” but it is plugged in. I’ve tried unplugging and using other adapters. Any recommendations?

You have to use the original charging blocks and cables that are come with ally. Otherwise the device won’t detect it’s plugged in.

Thanks for the video. Anyway, I want to report that the Cloud Recovery procedure is a little different now. Starting at 4:20, I didn't have the keyboard issue, and it didn't ask to relog the Wifi. But it now asks for the BitLocker recovery key of your Microsoft account. I don't know if it's a new procedure, or it varies by region. I'm in EU. Maybe in NA and Asia is different.

You can use other band in your wifi for connectivity

Yeah I think switch to a different wifi band will fix that problem. But don’t know why asus can’t target to the regular 5GHZ band. I think 2.4Ghz band will work with Asus server but some ppl on Reddit said even 2.4ghz won’t work either. The only way they can do this by using cellphone data.

@@yuyuyosef8533 connect to different band of wifi. Usually wifi has 2 bands: 5 Ghz and 2.4Ghz. If it supported and active in your wifi just switch to other band of wifi. If not you might have to switch to mobile data. Let me know how it worked out for you

Mine worked okay at first. After few days I got the Windows blue screen for the first time. Then I did a soft reset in safe mode. Then everything worked fine again. However, for the past few days, apps or games have been opening very slowly or sometimes not opening at all. Sometimes Armoury Crate doesn't open either. I'm going to do reinstall of Windows today for the last time. If none of this changes anything, then I'll return it tomorrow.

i think most of time it was caused by windows updates. When I get new updates on ally I am scared and don’t know what will happen after updates.

Just to help people with cloud recovery make sure you connect to 2.4g for internet on your wifi. When I did cloud recovery, 5g did not work , I switch it to 2.4, then once everything installed , I switch back to 5g

Thanks for great information. I did not test with 2.4g but I saw someone on Reddit said he tried 2.4g but still not work. Just hope Asus can make this more compatible with general wifi settings.

Why does it only work for 12 months? I want to keep this device for more than 12 months and my dog ally just went into bitlocker recovery after I put in recovery key it went into normal lockscreen then black screen after I put in the password I am currently resetting the asus using the bios but if it happens after the 12 months am I just out of luck?

The weird thing is I didn’t need a keyboard for mine though I had an unresponsive screen to the first time I got it going into my wifi, but the recovery just kept the password

My biggest complaint is the battery life. It’s so hard to last for more than 1 hour at 25 watts with 1080p AAA. If you only have 30% battery left you just can’t play this device it will go dead within 10 minutes. My ally is alway on charge.

Bestway to reset u ally is, take ur own windows copy on it an install only needed drivers, the workload is 10 minutes.

Mine was asking for my bitlocker key, I ended up skipping that step as it wouldn't let me backspace on touch keyboard and physical keyboard I connected 🥴. Was that important or no?

I have no idea for the bitlocker key stuff. if you can pass the could recovery page then it should be ok.

The Key is to unlock the current drive to read your content (Personal) files, to give you a chance to backup. If you skip, you're essentially not backing up anything.

yes , cloud recovery will get rid of everything on the ssd and reinstall all drivers

Windows reset will reuse the driver you currently have on the ally. But cloud recovery will wipe everything and start from fresh.

Maybe try at another time. Asus server may has issue . If still not resolved you can redo the whole process again.

thank you very much i fucked up my asus ally + windows 11 because i didnt follow a guide. Dont do what i did. don't yolo update armoury crate+ windows 11 updates at the same time. follow a guide here on youtube. Result was i got blue screen randomly and a lot of updates in win 11 were error/broken. I hope this can save my asus ally. Otherwise im gonna put in an SSD and install fresh again.

@@gigantoguy7140 welcome to repair tutorial for 3-5 hours please enjoy~ Though I do recommend KZbin/googling some more the battery drain on windows 11 is insane for the Asus ally. Even a crappy game drained all my battery in 1 hour. Meanwhile steamdeck runs 6hours+ at 5watt. Gonna need to remove all bloatware. And get some kind of extreme battery saver and hack windows to consume less ram and power.

Hello. My Ally is failing to factory reset. I have tried both the Bios and 'Reset PC' methods.. the Bios method does not do anything. it restarts and everything is the same. With restarting, it is stuck on 'preparing to reset" (just keeps spinning at 62%). Any ideas on what to do??

Tips: Asus ally z1 extreme user, try to downgrade your asus rog ally from windows 11- windows 10 benefit , fast fps ,long life of battery, not like in windows 11 .. that i can play almost 1nhalf hr only in warzone cllofduty mw3 ... In Windows 10 , i can run smooth with straight 3 hrs in warzone cll of dutymw3 or fortnite with low settings.. I enjoy playing ppsspp games too on my asus rog z1 extreme with 15wtts/turbo/120hz. 720p/ for 8hrs straight

you need plug in a physical keyboard for the second time wifi connection. I am assuming you are tying to do Asus cloud recovery.
