My friend was telling me that her father-in-law had exactly one phrase down in perfect German: "Ich kann Deutsch verstehen, wenn Sie langsam sprechen" and would use it in Germany to trick clients into thinking he actually knew German. But that was the only thing that he actually "knew" or understood.

The Midwest was settled by a lot of Germans and other northern Europeans. In Milwaukee for example in 1900 you might do just as well speaking German as English.

When I was in Germany in restaurants the menus were often in English. When Germans heard saying my order they would then immediately switch the conversation to English so the next time I went I would say my order with a German accent and we would proceed in German. :D lol

Honestly out of all of the language teachers I have you are probably the best one. You make learning German funny and enjoyable. Unfortunately I have had to put my German aside because my school is forcing me to learn Spanish. It is a very boring and stressful subject for me because the teachers don’t try to make it fun and I struggle to pay attention, but I need to pass it or else it will ruin my overall grade. This year is my last year of having to learn Spanish and hopefully I can focus on my German then. ❤️
@bobbylewis2
@bobbylewis2 4 жыл бұрын
You can do both. Spanish at school isn't as advanced as you might think. I put minimal effort and still got an A, and I did that so I could work on German and French. Dont put German away if you like it, keep going

OK that maybe is too late but i felt the same in my school time but with english just take the basics you lern at school and make the studys you do at home fun watch your favorite movie with spanish dubbing and subtitles or find some spanish music you enjoy reserch the hobbies you enjoy in spanish or lern the vocabulary for it and practice this way with things you have interest in and as we say in germany "Aller Anfang ist schwer" "every stard is hard"

The Scottish equivalent of "Ihr wart dann auf einmal irgendwie weg." when you get back and find your friends gone is "Well, I guess I'll go fuck myself then." And then when you find them again you repeat it again to them, even if they were just out of sight round a corner.

Dude!i thought that was only a generational German-American thing to grill meat until it’s crispy on the outside! There is nothing tastier than the crispy outer edges of a grilled steak. 🤤 Usually ends up tasting like bacon. Still have no idea how that works. 🤔😂 And this will totally blow your mind… The pig whistling thing? We Americans call groundhogs “whistle pigs”. 😂
@GetGermanized
@GetGermanized Жыл бұрын
