Super important lesson. What interests me is how to make those moves when going fast. For falling forward I get how that would go, but falling sideways when the wheel catches a rock or something... man, that fall happens too fast for me to have control.. and I do view the Earth as my friend 😂. Great clip!

Idk if it's similar to what you're describing, but I've been launched from my board several times due to rocks or seeds/berries from trees while going downhill. If I'm falling with a decent amount of speed, I've made it a habit to roll instead of trying to "catch" myself. Main thing I learned to do was keeping my hand pointed towards me so as not to hyperextend the elbow when I catch the ground and start my roll. Haven't broken anything and always popped right back up with nothing more than a couple scrapes - thankfully even the times I stupidly didn't have a helmet on.

When falling backwards aka sideways I also had to find out the hard way that reflexes suck. We tend to put our arm like you did at 3:38 (fingers facing outside), but it's important to keep them fingers pointed towards the body or the front (as in Judo rolls backwards, the arm acting as a bow to roll over). Otherwise the arm blocks in extended position and that causes serious damage to the palm, ulna/radius, elbow and/or shoulder (had my ulna/radius break once and my elbow dislocate twice). So I learn to fall backwards/sideways like that. But good basic tips!

I fell to the side and still broke my wrist. So I would recommend wristguards all day.

The ground is my friend. Might just be getting a bit too friendly in fact. I don't want to be friends with the ground anymore.

Nice video. It will be great you can demonstrate falling in real life in a pair of skates. 😅 That will help a lot!

yesss leuke video!

The best way to fall backwards is to not fall backwards
@cate01a3 жыл бұрын
thanks for the rare, helpful info! though with falling backwards, why not just squat, then fall back, and let your elbowpads touch the ground, followed by your wrist/hands? to me, that sounds better than twisting your back?
@Vrais232 жыл бұрын
You never wanna fall backwards. Especially on your elbows you run the risk of breaking your arm or slamming the back of your head. If you fall backwards you can hurt your back,wrists,arms, or your tailbone. Stay loose stay low and twist.

broke my forearm falling sideways, surprisingly easy and fast, 5 weeks ago. better fall forward - if you can coordinate that at exact moment.
@cohowtekk Жыл бұрын
If you are falling backwards and you are already about to fall in the absolute majority of cases you are not able to bend your knees with your feet touching the ground, that advice is a bit pointless. Focus on making it sideways is the best advice.
