Really good tips. Back when I was younger, I practiced martial arts, and learning to fall is one of the first things they teach you in grappling arts. And they basically teach you to fall exactly the way you describe - you want as much surface area of your body making contact at the exact same time, to spread out the impact across as much of your body as possible. I might catch some flak for this, but if you have any loved ones, people who you care about, family, etc... you owe it to them to always wear a helmet, especially when you're out in city streets. Traumatic brain injury can happen in an instant, and it won't always be your fault, either, just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Call me an old fart, but I wouldn't be of any use to my wife as a vegetable.
@DeezSkates
@DeezSkates 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your concern! You won't catch an ounce of flack from me for being considerate of my life! Also, I took years of martial arts when I was younger, and learned to fall from it! ;) It's coold how disciplines can work so well together!

You need to be able to quickly judge & respond to every situation. Don’t go faster than you can make a decision on how to maneuver & actually stop if you need to. There is a big part of city skating that is mental skill.

This also applies in driving. I always prepare my self if one random kid jumped out from the alley. So I could stop/ evade without hitting cars beside me
@neldormiveglia1312
@neldormiveglia1312 Жыл бұрын
I agree! The mental aspect really applies to everything in this world too. You have to be able to react in time OR have a plan for when you really only can fall, so that if you do, you don't hurt yourself too badly. Gain some confidence until you really can go ballistic. Also, WEAR PROTECTIONS PLS 😭🙌🏼 They're essential but they're fun too, cause they allow you to play around with a few tricks.

#1 - 0:00 - be a train. Skating through the city is way easier when you have tracks. #2 - 0:25 - wear shorts with only one leg. You'd be surprised how unaerodynamic short legs flapping around in the wind are. Half the legs, half the wind resistance!

I only skate indoors and haven’t skated outside in ab 10yrs and today was a reality check because I thought I could go to a local park and peacefully skate on a seemingly nice pavement trail, it was anything but peaceful lol I think it was more of my fear of going too fast and having no control, I forgot hills were a thing . I’ve been mostly city skating since skating rinks are far from where I live, and I just realized I’ve been doing quite a few of these without realizing. But a lot of these really helped me, and I’m thinking about investing in in-lines so I can do a lot of this stuff since I live in a place with lots of uneven surfaces.

Don’t let your rollerblade wheels go in the grooves in the road or especially side walks. Look for patch’s of lawn or grass to slow down on or crash on. Always have one foot a little further then the other, I’m right handed but I always lead with my left foot even though it’s weaker then my right.

I’ve been contemplating wearing a helmet more often lately. I don’t think about it much because the places I skate in my city have little to no cars. I think that instinct comes more naturally the later in life you learn skating.. my mom had me skating as soon as I could walk, so I am still adjusting to all the viewers who tell me I need to wear a helmet. Skating and running aren’t really different in my mind. Imagine you go jogging on KZbin and everyone tells you that you could get run over so you should never jog without a helmet! 😂 Anyway, I’m not mad that people make comments out of concern for my safety. Those are just my thoughts.

This was super helpful. I've been out skating three times, two times without pads. The last time was today with pads and it gave me the confidence to make small jumps though, which made it a lot easier to navigate over/around the cracks in the road. Stopping immediately is hard so i'm going to practice sitting down while skating next time, like you said, and try not to relate on my pads too much.

Got back into blading after a few years. My feet let me know after the fact which I'm sure is common/typical. The path I am using has areas that have been tar patched because of surface cracks. Which makes going over them more fun as it were. And yes the typical debris of tiny rocks or pebbles and such. Minor uphill presents its challenges and so does the wind.

Thank you for this c: I live in an area where I simply can't get to any skateparks without a car, not to mention most of the outdoor ones are either really dangerous, run down or attracts really sketchy people (Being female that is terrifying), and the indoor ones are just open in the evenings outside of bus times (living on the countryside that means no buses after 7, none on weekends), so that leaves me with having to skate on rough roads with no sidewalks
