Thank you for the wonderful tutorial on the step by step of removing and inserting the noctua fan. Decided on getting the 2pin black noctua fan from you guys. Can't wait to use this on a future velka 3 build later this month.

@@Sanzhar94 correct, Noctua didn't realise we were supplying as stand alone, even if we have chopped, stripped, re-crimpped, heat shrinked and put a new connector on. Although never expressed when they agreed supply, just assumed we would be only fitting into a final product. So we were forced to take that down, or have supply issues. Can still be supplied if you drop us an email, just not openly on our website any more, unless integrated into a product

Will turning the power supply fan to intake be beneficial for fan noise versus exhaust? My ENP-7660B VK is very loud at load despite pulling less than 350 watts from the wall, so I was wondering if changing the fan orientation to intake would cool the PSU down for less rpm?

I would not recommend changing the fan orientation, as the engineer has it oriented in accordance to how the internal components that makes the PSU are laid out. Components like the bridge rectifier can get very hot and is place near the exhaust. If you were to make it an intake with this particular design, the fan will be push that heat towards the more heat sensitive components like the secondary filtering capacitors. This can have an adverse effect to the PSU's lifespan, electrical performance (voltage regulation, dc quality output, etc. and it's ability to maintain ATX specs), and may even cause the fan to spin harder, as those heat sensitive components that shouldn't be getting that hot are now getting that hot.

@overtekltd2212

Hi Kirk, it has a different fan mapping and voltages so different fan would be required, we use a Sunon as the startup voltage is to low for a 12V Noctua. It would mean the fan would be silent at startup not moving on power up as it would be held stalled until load/thermals cause the voltage to rise enough to overcome the stall. Depending on load it may then cool the PSU with the fan output dropping till the fan stops again. In short you may find you end up with a fan cycling up and down fan speeds / on/off. The interesting question is that arises from this not (Will that be annoying?) as that's a personal/individual question depending on how sensitive one is, but more; Will holding a Noctua fan stalled for a long period of time cause any long term issue? The answer to which I shall come back with, as I'll get Noctua to answer that one.
@overtekltd2212
@overtekltd2212 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kirk, Just to follow that up with confirmation from Noctua that it would not cause any damage to the fan. So, if you want a 12V Black Noctua Fan with the correct connector we can provide one, just drop us a message. I will say though that it won't have sufficient cfm (air flow) for the full output load on the 400W power supply. That means the power supply will run hotter and may hit thermal protection at high loads causing it to shut down along with any load on the output. At say 50% load it would be fine. You just have to weight up what you want, lower noise will always tend to equate to higher thermals for the most part with air cooling. Bearing types do have an impact on this, but at 40mm FDB type bearings, like Noctua, have an rpm limitation. Which is why for the most part stock 40mm fans are dual ball bearing. Sunon Maglev that we apply to the 400W provides the same level as cooling as stock but is a little quieter, although not as quiet as Noctua. So ultimately it all depends on your application and load as to choice you make to suit it.

I had to search for a bit to get the answer, but it seems this particular PSU keeps the fan voltage below 5v up until around 500-watt. I assume you figured this out but future seekers of the WTF are they actually doing here.

@@warnacokelat yeah, I have seen the inside of that. It's soldered onto the 12V output of the PSU. So it runs 100% all the time. My last video is a solder link where it bypasses the fan controller to put out 12vdc to the fan header all the time. Same result a little easier

Arghh we've been rumbled guvnor. No more making nock off ones from recycled bits of old trainers and burnt out motors. No not really, we'd be infringing so many trade marks and patents we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot. Its just something that's not publicly available and is more for OEMs. You can always try contacting Noctua directly yourself or we might even sell you one if you fancy. Also, just for you, as you seem like a fan fan, check out the dull video we just released of fans for fans coming out a box of fans. Enjoy x

No, Its at the design limit in the form factor for multi rail output. Increasing the PSU length can mean slightly higher power for multi rail and there is an 850W but 220mm length in the market. We do carry some 2000W enhance platinum PSU, but in a standard ATX size form factor. ATX-3920GB. Also in the market in some places under the coolermaster brand as M2000.
