Dusk Crown does boost you magic damage by 20% but also decreases you magic resistence by 30%. If you need a shield that does block magic, you really should get the Crest Shield. You can find it in the undead asylum after you've defeaded Oscar of Astora (the guy who gave you the estus flasks in the very beginning).

It's way easier to start from the Bonfire in the Dukes Archives. I tried farming (with no success) and I would start from the warpable bonfire in the archives, equip the fog ring which allowed me to run through the crystal golems undetected in the yard easily, only had to fight one golem on the way instead of all those crab things and then I'd snipe with a bow. If you don't get too close, you can actually kill the butterflies without ever being attacked. A bit longer but a lot safer for me.

Also an option, since you could also farm the Crystal Golems in the way for extra Blue Titanite Chunks, though I do prefer the path shown in the video since there's quite a lot of stuff worth upgrading that requires the Twinkling Titanites dropped by the Man-Eater Shells.

Good guide, did a sorcerer build and didn't know about this. I think crown of dusk doubles magic damage taken also, so this may be why the moonlight butterflys hurt so much.

Here is a good tip for farming these dang slabs, if you feel like you will fall off the invisible platforms use the Dragonslayer bow and arrows and equip the covetous gold ring and Hawk ring for better bow range/damage. With a high dex/str build you should take the butterflies down in 4-5 shots without getting hit with the magic attack and you can hit the first two but you actually need to walk on one invisible path to get the last one in view, or if you have high faith and sunlight spear use that since it should insta-kill them depending on the faith level and talisman. (I use Darkmoon talisman and it is great for Faith builds)

This game does a great number of things wrong, but this is certainly one that annoys me a lot: the inability to finalize weapon upgrades without hours of grinding the same enemies over and over hoping for a less than 0.5% drop. They should have made slabs able to be bought from smiths(I wouldn't care one bit if I had to pay 100,000 a piece it would be better than this) or crafted with enough chunks of the same color.

Just spent hours, and I mean HOURS grinding for titanite slabs in Now Londo Ruins using your other video. Then the first thing you say is that THIS ONE is the biggest pain in the ass to farm. I am not looking forward to this.

On my first play through I ran through the Crystal Golems a lot to fight Seath and I got a slab from them, I have 2 slabs on that character but I think one of them is the treasure. Don't have a video but I am 99% sure (not 100% only because wikidot says they don't drop it and every video says only butterflies drop it)

I am in NG+ and had no plans to actually do this, but still sort of wanted a slab if I could get one, so I put on the gold serpent ring and killed these things on the way to the boss with my +15 Pharis bow. To my surprise, I got a slab from the third one I killed. That, combined with the other (annoying hidden path) blue slab I noped out of on my initial playthrough but got this time using arrows, will help me to get both the magical and enchanted weapon achievements before I touch the DLC... Still hoping for a lucky regular slab in the Great Hollow, as that will give me enough to finish the three related achievements and also get a third weapon to +15 in addition to my bow and my sword.

They aren't that resistant to magic as the golems. 2 soul spears with dusk+ring+36 intelligence brings them down to a sliver of health. Which I can deal with a bow, or weaker spell. Still no slab.

Just dodge the shells and kill the first butterfly with 2 soul spears. Homeward and repeat. Way faster.

Upgrade your bow/crossbow to +15 and get better arrows/bolts. But why do you need Blue Titanites for a strength build?

By killing Solaire of Astora, if you mean his armor set. If you mean the miracles, you need to join the Warriors of Sunlight covenant via a broken statue in Undead Parish, in the open area next to the bonfire below which Hellkite Drake is located. Joining the covenant gives you the Lightning Spear right away, but you need 25 Faith to be able to do it. Then you offer 10 Sunlight Medals to rank up and be rewarded with the Great Lightning Speak miracle. You can farm those medals from the Chaos Bugs in the shortcut right before the Demon Firesage boss room that connects Demon Ruins to Lost Izalith.

By far one of the worst farm methods, basically you have a better chance of starting a entire new game and getting that one slab instead of doing this.

Goes for any slab farming, but you're right, the blue slabs are the worst. But you only find two per playthrough otherwise. But do you actually need/want more than 2? Probably not, but for those who do, grinding the Moonlight Butterflies is the only way.
