How To Fastboot OEM Unlock & Lock Bootloader Android Nexus 7

TUTORIAL-How to fastboot oem unlock & relock the bootloader in fastboot mode Google nexus 7 android device using adb tool, ADT\SDK Bundle. OEM lock & relock your android device's bootloader by booting into fastboot mode. Connecting your mobile device and typing into the terminal window: (fastboot oem unlock) - THIS WILL ERASE ALL YOUR USER DATA and possible void warranty and change the tamper flag from false to true. So do this at your own risk! When you re-lock the bootloader it DOES NOT wipe any data, but when you want to unlock it again, you must run (fastboot oem unlock) again, which will wipe the data AGAIN. You can also enter the bootloader by powering off your device then turn it back on and press and hold the volume down button and hold the power button down at the same time until the tablet turns on. That will get you into the bootloader fastboot mode. Other nexus devices have different key combinations to enter into fastboot from a powered off state. If you are not a developer and do not flash often I recommend to re-lock the bootloader.

Thank you I was able to unlock my LG3 Sprint phone this way!! Went through a lot of procedures to fix this problem. If you want to unlock your LG3 sprint also this way put your phone into fast-boot mode by holding the down volume and power button while device is plugged out. Plug in the device after on fastboot mode. Follow the command instruction of fast boot unlock...it should ok and finish the process really quickly...it will also say unlock OEM on the phone. Restart the phone (I took the battery out ) and insert sim card of your choice. It should take it a while to process the sim. Good luck. Hope this helps!

Cheers bud, just managed to revert my Nexus 7 2012 back to Android 4.4.4 after android 5.0 made it really slow and Laggy. took a while as my laptop is not that quick, and some of the webpages have changed but got it done and all is well with the world again. NB the Shift+right click in a white area to choose "open command window" didnt work as stated in the video on my laptop. I had to go up a directory and shift+right click on the "program tools" folder to get it to show. any way thanks a bunch, excellent tutorial.

Great video. Thanks a lot for it. I was trying to follow the procedure for my Samsung Galaxy 10.1 2014. All is installed and seems to work. 'adb devices' works fine and detects the tablet. 'adb reboot bootloader' also works fine, but when the tablet opens the bootloader is disconnects immediately and 'fastboot oem unlock' is unsuccessful. Message is 'Waiting for device". I tried multiple times also directly from the tablet, but without success. Would there be any chance you would know how to keep the connection to the tablet? Thanks a lot

When I go into boot loader my Nexus shows E:/ errors and wont reset. When powered up normally it only shows Google and nothing else. Wont Unlock boot loader either. Allows you to select unlock then freezes :/ Also occasionally windows reports it to be a QHSUSB_DLOAD Which I cannot locate drivers.

Patrick Hantsch also had an asus call, they just told me to power off and then press power 40 for seconds... But the device has 24 months warranty and so should get fixed. I will try some things and otherwise will send it to asus for repair

+Tavo Unlocks the bootloader so you can flash custom roms. You can always relock it if your going to only do this once. I recommend re-locking for security reasons.

any thoughts on what to do if they bootloader just won't unlock. You probably have seen other forums talk about this problem. I have been able to get to the bootloader screen, move it to "yes" and hit the power button to confirm, and it just hangs. Nobody has come up with a solution on how to force flash the device or just override this error. Basically my 7 is jut stuck on the Google screen otherwise.

My nexus 7 tablet is stuck on Google logo screen with a little open padlock on bottom. I tried recovery mode, clearing cache partition, restarting, starting, all those options on the recovery menu....tapping it a few times on the back has not worked for me as it has for others. I don't know what else to do. I have not tried putting the software using a PC since I am not an expert but maybe that is a possible solution? Someby help please? 😭😭😭

Jamie, my Nexus 7 (2012) went into a boot loop a few days ago, and I've finally found your video (as well as other videos and pages) which have gotten me close to fixing the problem - except for the fact that my Win 8.1 PC is telling me I'm trying to connect an unrecognized USB device whenever I plug the USB cable into the tablet. This happens no matter whether the tablet is at the boot loader menu, the recovery menu, or trying to restart (and looping). I've already cleared the user cache and done a full reset from the Recovery menu. Any ideas?

Kevin Lewis With the device connected to your computer and while it's in fastboot/bootloader mode and with the command window open type in adb devices. If it is unrecognized then unplug it and replug it back in. Then run adb devices again and see what it does. Sometimes doing it that way will cause a promt on the device about an RSA key which you need to except. and then run adb devices again. The other thing you could check is to make sure you have the windows device driver installed on your computer. I have a video showing how to do it exactly, If you need to watch it let me know. I will send you the link. Try this first and see what it does.

If you want your device to work you have to get the right drivers it seems the google usb drivers will work on windows 8.1 but with the adb and fastboot files you will the different ones to get it to work download this will help you on windows 8.1 computers www.droidextra.org/2013/12/24/solved-fix-adb-devices-offline-100-working.html also dont use usb 3.0 when doing any adb or fastboot commands because it does not work that good

You might have to start completely over. Watch my video fist completely then try again.. It really should work if you have everything downloaded exactly and up to date with everything. If not then your device might be having a hardware problem and you might need to replace it.

Hello Jamie. I have a Nexus 7 2012 version that started acting weird. It would take forever to boot and eventually it would stay on the Google boot screen. I went into recovery and did a factory reset and a wipe cache. But nothing has worked. I tried unlocking the bootloader and I get to the step where I choose yes to unlock it. But once I select it my Nexus screen goes blank and does not come back on. What am I doing wrong?

I need help. I have a HTC Desire 10 pro (From Aliexpress, yes warranty avoid), it was working fine(more than a year) until a few days ago. One morning I took it and it was off but the notification led was not on despite charging. I tried to turn it on and enter to recovery but it was not responding. I decided to open the phone to remove the battery and verify that it was not damaged. Mysteriously the battery was in good condition, and once I removed it and plugged it back in, the phone responded again when connecting the USB and the charger. But there is a problem, when the system is going to boot, after showing the HTC logo, the phone turns off together with the notification led and returns to the state in which I found it at first. I removed and placed the battery again so that it would respond again, but now I entered to recovery to make a reset, but the problem is that the recovery is very outdated, so it does not have the "wipe data" options. It should be said that in "recovery" mode I can execute some fastboot commands (PC recognizes my device because of fastboot drivers) as "reboot", but for example: * I can't use the "erase" command because my current recovery is not supported C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot erase userdata erasing 'userdata'... FAILED (remote: Partition userdata erase not supported) finished. total time: 0.022s * Nor I can directly install the TWRP recovery because it tells me: C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img target reported max download size of 1596000000 bytes sending 'recovery' (14320 KB)... OKAY [ 0.062s] finished. total time: 0.062s Well, this is the situation, and the solution is: install the TWRP recovery to do a reset and if necessary install the official ROM. Buuut, to install the recovery I need to activate USB debugging (MANUALLY in the android options) and unlock the bootloader, which is impossible for me since the phone "turns off" before starting. My question is: How to activate this option without having to access the android settings? I mean, with commands in fastboot or in some software. I have searched a LOT on the internet and I can't find anything about it, all the tutorials have the device fully functional, not like me that my device does not start.

It won't go backwards to 4.4 but it will wipe out/format your phones current os. I don't know if it works exactly the same on the moto g..

awesome job on the tutorial. Great video. Lollipop 5.0.2 killed my N7 2013. I am stuck in the boot process at the Google logo after an OTA update. It finished and two days later dead. So I was able to get to fastboot mode follow the process and at erasing userdata ithas been running for awhile. Not sure how long to "let it go" (the cold does bother me). I had not too much music and a few movies plus really not too many pics. Is this part of the process going to last 30 min or more for some people? Never done this as I've never had a need to unlock flash etc. I THANK ALL OR ANYONE IN ADVANCE for any answers or assistance!

Long story short, I was trying out new kernels, got stuck in a boot loop, nothing would fix it, so I tried to restore back to stock rom. I did it manually in fastboot mode, but the bootloader .img would not write. It gave an error saying mismatched signatures. I redownloaded the image, I tried using a couple of different methods, like using toolkits and various commands, and finally, without thinking, erased the bootloader using the fastboot erase command with the intent of re-writing it, which obviously I can not do or I would no longer be here. It still boots, in the sense that I hear the notification on the computer that a device has been connected, but it shows up as NVidia APX in my list of devices on windows instead of Nexus 7 now, and the screen shows nothing. So... how screwed am I? If it is hopeless, is there any way to return/replace it (without using questionable methods)? Thanks.

need help. i am having trouble. My nexus 7 froze yesterday while doing a reset and now i cant get passed the google logo as it keeps freezing there. i am trying to flash stock rom but i need to unlock bootloader. i am able to get into bootloader and am able get to the question to unlock bootloader (yes or no). i select yes and it starts to erase userdata however it stays there for a long time. for example i left it for 2-3hours and it hadn't progressed to the cache.

Yes i have a video on my KZbin channel showing how to unlock the Bootloader. It does need to be unlocked before trying to flash the device. If you unlock it for the first time it will erase all user data. Hopefully you had everything backed up. Then you can flash your device and relock it if you want to. If you relock the bootloader it will not erase all user data.

jessica lambson If you can get the bootloader unlocked it should work if you just start the flash-all.bat file. I think it might work even without usb debugging enabled. I was going to try it that way but I didn't get the video done.
