I [South Carolina, Zone 8A/B] leave my dead/dehydrated flowers; zinnias, sunflowers, marigold, oh all of them, and ever since I began doing that I've gotten birds I've never had before. I dislike the unkempt look of it but it makes me happIER to see the birds in the bush having fun, eating, & enjoying themselves in the brush (and hiding from the hawks) so I don't do a clean up until nearing end of winter. Naturally I buy different versions of seeds for placement about the yard, but I like the idea of nature giving back to nature.

Thank you Robbie. Just started feeding our finches, blue jays and hummers. More are starting to come and I'm so happy. Bought the right stuff and more hummers are here in Southern Oregon. Don't care if it rains or snows because I've got covers for all. Thanks!!

Thanks for the info Robbie. You have pleasant weather you can do that with. It's below freezing every night here in Southern Idaho now, so no plants for the birds, but I do feed them wild bird seed, finch seed, dove and quail seed and the nyger socks for my four gold finches. I mainly get house sparrows (lots), house finches, mourning doves, pigeon like doves, and maybe a Robin and a woodpecker. I have two birdbath heaters so there'splentyof unfrozen water for the birds and squirrels, and lots of birdseed on the ground. Those house sparrows have no manners 😅. Take care.

Very good. Here in the northern great lakes area I use 2 types plus cracked corn. White millet, and black oil whole and chips. The corn is turkey , grouse and dove. The white millet is all ground feeders . I had to stream line the feed types as we go through one and a half to two tons a year and it is not going down in price here.

For all my Canadian bird lovers please visit Pick of the Birds. They are in Manitoba and I buy them through RONA shipped to my door. I buy the shelled sunflower seeds and raw peanuts. They are expensive but worth every penny. The birds absolutely love them! It's also nice to support a local grower. The finches eat at the feeders and the juncos eat the small pces that fall below. Very little mess or discarded seeds. Easy to clean up to deter rats - they also love them :)

Thank you. The straight thistle seed is expensive! I’ll switch to the finch mix and parakeet seed. Again thank you

Hey Robbie do you have a video on how you construct one of those platform feeders for the wire racks? I get pigeons hanging off my feeders even after hanging chains thinking they’ll be afraid of getting their wings caught- nope they eat and spill most of the seed out. Thanks for the tip of using cage bird seed because most of the seed is dropped and tossed out by the sparrows. Thanks Robbie!!

I love birds and used to feed them, lots of them in my garden including a few hummingbirds which were my favorite. I still put out bird food, but the small birds have quit coming around the last year and a half. I guess it is because a beautiful young feral cat adopted us and my daughter fell in love with this cat. He is a sweet cat, but now we have no birds. He does keep the mice and rats away, which I am happy for. But sad to have no more small birds, only doves and big birds. 😥

Hi Robbie,I started watching your videos about 2 years now. You inspired me to do so many things for the birds and the garden. I put a fountain in my backyard because I have several hummingbirds, and this summer, I have yellow finches Bought food for them 2 weeks ago, but they're not eating it Can you please give me some info on how to attract them to the food?🙂🌻Thank you! for everything you do for the wildlife

Hello Robbie! I am in SoCal too. I started feeding the hummingbirds this winter. I started at about 16oz of sugar water every 4 days. In the summer I had to up it to 28oz every 2 days because so many would start coming. Now the last couple of weeks I'm doing 48oz every day. There is so many! I wish my neighbors would help! When can I expect activity to die down? I heard migration to Mexico starts in the winter but I know some of the hummingbirds stay here year round.

Hi.We live in lower NY state and I grow some sunflowers along a fence.I noticed these yellow birds land on them and pick the seeds right out of the heads and I realize now they are finches,so they apparantly are very able to split them open and eat the insides.Between the finch and the squirrels -they ruin the sunflowers but thats ok.Ty for your great info on feeding birds!
@shirleywilhelm149512 күн бұрын
I don't use millet. When I use up shelled sunflower, peant pieces. I'll be using Nutrasaf. Plus I feed in shell peanuts for Blue Jay's.

Hi Robbie, regarding celery, could you or maybe one of your other viewers please refer me to any video you've done with information on growing celery? I have a few plants that survived the summer and they're HUGE and inedible now, but I noticed some new growth. I have never grown celery before and as you know there's precious little GOOD info on gardening in our climate (I'm in the IE). So, what do I do with the celery? Leave it alone? Pull it? Trim it? Cut it back hard? Thanks so much!!!!!!
