Second hand is great, but it can't possibly solve the entire problem. We published a blog post recently about it. One of the issues is that plus sizes are rarely served well in used garment shops. And, the percentage of clothes being recycled or reworn via thrift shopping is only a fraction of the amount produced. So yes please shop second hand, but also consider "buy fewer, buy better" as a guiding principal.

People need to buy sewing machines and learn how to use them.

I'm still wearing clothes I bought years ago, a and I take really good care of them. I wash them in cold water and sew up tears. It's an excellent idea ti buy second hand, learn how to sew and stop willy nilly buying items that aren't made to last anyway.

Good points, but you are guilty of misrepresenting the figures to prove your point about Charity shops. You say BHF spent 29% of its income on charitable works and Oxfam spent 70% of its expenditure on charitable works. It would be fairer to compare % of income spent on charitable works for both, or % of expenditure for both. Classic statistical slight of hand. You don't need to do this, the points you make are valid and important and a valuable source of independent information.
